Colts Neck Inn is a historic culinary landmark. It was established in 1717 and is the oldest Inn in New Jersey. It is the sixth oldest in the United States. The ambiance of the restaurant still holds true to it's historic roots while keeping the vibe current and elegant. Me and my wife went here for Valentine's Day. Our waitress was very friendly. The food and drinks came out in a timely manner even though the restraunt was packed. By the way, they also have live music playing on the bar side on Saturdays which makes your dinner experience a little more special. The cocktails we had were on point and delicious.Especially the Valentine's Day special cocktail Strawberry Kisses. My NY Strip steak was cooked perfectly and the Bearnaise sauce was rich and kicked the steak flavor up a knotch. My wife had the Rib Eye steak and that was excellent too.The steak was very flavorful especially adding the steak sauces with the steak. The desserts were so good. The Chocolate Mousse Cake was like going to chocolate heaven. Bonus: the slice was very big! The cake was deliciously rich with the cheesecake center but not heavy. The Butterscotch Bread Pudding was on another level. I usually don't go for this type of dessert. When I saw it was made with a family recipe. My curiosity got the best of me. Boy was I not disappointed. The combination of the bread pudding, vanilla ice cream, and drizzlings of chocolate and caramel syrup. I was on cloud nine eating the dessert! Definitely go here if you want a nice romantic upscale experience!

The atmosphere in here is very nice and it feels warm and cozy. We sat on the outside of the bar in the booths closest to the road by the windows. Amber was our server and she was fantastic. She constantly checked on us made sure we were happy, never let a drink get half empty and told us to take as much time as we needed and didn’t make us feel rushed at all. For the appetizers we got lamb chops, tuna tartare and the steak sliders. The lamb chops were delicious, like butter. The steak sliders might have been my favorite thing, the tuna was very good as well (note: it’s frozen packaged tuna, not fresh) and I think they use chips straight out of a chip bag. I think a nicer touch would be a house made chip. For dinner we had a ribeye and a NY strip. The ribeye was cooked perfect, very tasty with a good fat to meat ratio, and the strip was also very good and tender. The French fries are delicious by the way that come with the strip! Overall I feel this place is very good. I don’t think $24 for apps is completely worth it I think they’re a bit overpriced for what you get (3 steak sliders, frozen tuna, with chips out of a chip bag) but everything was tasty. I will definitely be putting this place on my list of restaurants I frequent and I look forward to coming back soon!

This is one of the best steakhouses I’ve ever been to! Where the ambiance is historic charm meets modern sophistication, you’ll need to have your next date night here. For appetizers, we started off with the garlic parm chicken drumettes. The chicken was so juicy and I adored the presentation. The garlic cheesy cream was the sauce of my dreams. The french onion soup came bubbling over with that cheesy pull we all love. It’s a steakhouse staple! And yes — they even serve fresh sushi! The rainbow salmon tuna roll was a sushi dream wrapped in every bite and made for a unique menu addition. Dinner stole the show — the spicy vodka rigatoni packed bold flavor and heat, making it a great meal for those who love a comfort meal with a kick. The filet mignon was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, cooked exactly how a steak should be, with a nice helping of mashed potatoes and asparagus. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better… dessert. The warm, house-made bread pudding was insanely comforting, and the rich chocolate cake? Fresh from the owner’s daughter’s bakery (Fancy Cakes NJ) — a sweet family touch you won’t find anywhere else. If you’re looking for your next dinner spot in Colts Neck — trust me, the Colts Neck Inn Steakhouse is worth every bite!

Service was terrible. Waitress did not know what liquors were stocked at the bar. When asked what brands of rye are carried, the answer was, "We carry everything, what do you want?" I asked for Whistle Pig Rye, and the waitress later returned and stated that they do not carry it. She then asked what my next choice was. I asked her for a bar list, but they do not have one. I then asked her to ask the bar what brands they carry so as not to be going back and forth. She later returned and said they carry Bullit. I asked what other brands, and she said that the bartender said that's all they carry. Strike one. I ordered the ribeye and was told that they were out of ribeye. How does a steakhouse not have enough ribeye for a Saturday night? The manager can by later and explained that his supplier unexpectedly raised the price, so he didn't order any. Strike two. I ordered the porterhouse medium rare. The steak arrived and did have a nice taste. However, half the steak was a light pink, and the other half was on the way to well done. Strike three. I wanted a glass of Shiraz with the meal, but they don't carry it. Strike four. I wanted to try the apple pie for dessert, and, you guessed it, they were out. Strike five. Also, there was no water served or offered at the table until we asked for it. The water glasses that were on the table were dirty and sticky. Strike six. On the good side, the salad was very fresh. My wife ordered the grouper and said that it was very good. Overall, I would not return as the poor service and lack of attention to the stock made for a disappointing experience. It was definitely not worth the money we spent.

Now that I have read your reply, I see why people post the things they do. You take NO ownership for your shortcomings and misstate facts. First of all, the glasses were dirty and sticky when we sat down and had to be replaced. You stated that your purveyor wanted to charge you $3.00 more per pound for the ribeye, so you didn't order it. Nothing was said about whether or not it was CAB. I never said the meat was delicious. As a matter of fact, I made no statements about the meat. You spoke primarly with my wife, not me and she said that her grouper was good, which I had stated in my initial review. The salads were also fresh, as I had previously stated. The first think you waitress told us was that you stock all kinds of rye. After multiple inquiries she then said that you only stock one brand of rye. Don't mislead your customers when asked a direct question. When I asked what brands you carry, she should know that you only carry one brand and relay that information, not make it like a scavenger hunt to get the correct answer. I also didn't mention in the initial review that we were charged twice for the one drink. It was corrected, but only after we reviewed the bill. She was the only person that waited on us and should review the bill before presenting it for payment. Nor did I say anything about the type of glass that a $17 Manhattan Up was served in. I stand...

Really tried to enjoy this place, but it failed to impress on all avenues this evening. It all started when making the reservations for Christmas Eve dinner. My family called ahead of time three times asking if there would be a holiday menu. First we were told the menu wasn't available. The following two times we were told it was the same as what was on the website. So imagine our surprise arriving to find a limited holiday menu with only a few options from their online menu. We spoke to the assistant manager about this, but he seemed too busy with other things, and rushed away after an insincere sorry. The waitress kept us waiting a long time since she probably didn't want to deal with difficult customers, though we weren't rude or standoffish. We were just confused and felt lied to just to have our business.

The food was probably the worst I've had in a long time. Due to the limited menu, the only appetizers available were seafood dishes so if you don't like fish or seafood, you were out of luck. The house staff were unwilling to make accommodations from their regular menu. The overall selection were basic dishes of steak and ribeye, with no vegetarian options, and only one chicken dish. We ordered said chicken, the pork chops, and the salmon as the meat selections other tables were receiving looked small, unappetizing, and kept being returned to the kitchen. All of our ordered dishes came out way too salty. The accompanying veggies were also extremely salty. The apple chutney with the pork chops was the only reasonably seasoned and cooked side dish.

The restuarant was overall very noisy and poorly laid out. We were constantly in people's ways and got bumped into all night. The drink menu listed the cocktails for $17, but they charged $18 for them. The waitress spilled the cocktail onto my cashmere hat, but did not offer me anything but a sorry. I would have appreciated some napkins and some water. Instead I had to run past the waitress to the bathroom and try to not get the liquid to stain my hat. The supposed al la carte sides where not listed as if they were unavailable. Same thing with the desserts. The waitress told us our options and we decided to give a final chance to them with a red velvet and lemon cake. Both of those were completely tasteless. The red velvet tasted powdery like box mixes and the cream frosting tasted like plastic. The lemon cake had no lemon flavor and was also powdery. And each slice was $14. For utter tasteless dessert.

Overall, the experience was less than pleasant and we will not be returning here. Wish at least the service was fine, but it wasn't. I don't recommending coming here, especially during a busy night like Christmas Eve. Your evening will not be nice...

This was a Mother's Day Brunch seating at 11am for 3 adults, 1 child and 2 under 3 and was my first dining experience. When we entered at 11am we were told the food was in the back. Having never been there before, we had no idea what that meant so we followed everyone else. We had a reservation, so seating was not an issue. They weren't ready at 11am to serve. It took about 15 minutes for all of the options to be available and the kitchen struggled to keep pace as many options emptied quickly, the lines formed, and the refresh was slow. There was a cash bar service and juices available. This was a catered event, so the food was, well what I expected, but not bad with a fair amount of options. Our waitress did bring us water to our table and even filled the dirty glass and moved on. Empty plates sat on the table for a while, but we continued to return to the buffet. Everything was fair, until the check arrived. First, they charged us the child price for one of the under threes that ate one pancake. The waitress didn't ask if he was under three, just charged us despite under three being free. The real kick in the pants came from the automatic 20% gratuity for parties of 6 or more, billed for four at the table. Yes, I know technically six, I get it. 20% on a buffet is insane. I served myself, I served my own drinks and stacked my own plates, by that definition I should have stayed to collect my tip-out after dining. I would have described our service as poor, unfriendly and unwelcoming. The 20% was not disclosed at the time of the reservation and I consider this a deceptive business tactic. It was Mother's Day so I would have chosen to leave more anyway, despite the bad service, but after the 20% gratuity was automatically added, there was an additional line for the tip. How many added a tip after already being charged? Quite a few I imagine. We will not be visiting this restaurant again and encourage them to be honest, upfront and train their staff appropriately. If the manager had visited out table, we would have spoken to them directly. EDIT: RESPONSE TO REPLY: He is clearly projecting his admission of guilt, who is the scammer? If the manager had used his close reading skills, he would have noted I am not intending to return. His aggressive tone is nothing more than an acknowledgment of the accuracy in the review. He in fact did not visit our table, there was a 20% gratuity added to a buffet where I served myself, and the service was poor. I set my expectations higher and I will simply take my...
