I really like that they have a lot of options, but I was surprised to see how high the prices are for the size of the pizza that you are getting. We don't mind spending a little more if the food is higher tier, but I was underwhelmed with the two pizzas that we purchased tonight. We got a thin crust Sicilian pizza and a hand tossed pulled pork barbecue pizza (I think it was called Texan). I preferred the hand tossed crust over the thin crust. Even though I almost always go for thin crust, the Sicilian tasted decent and if I were to go back I believe I would pick that pizza again. I wasn't a fan of their barbecue sauce and the pizza did not have sauce under the cheese, it was just a swirl on top of the toppings. For the price point that they are aiming for, I don't feel like the food met my expectations and that is the reason for my three stars. I really was excited to try the barbecue pizza but was sadly disappointed after the first bite. I only had one slice of that pizza although barbecue, especially pulled pork, is one of my favorite foods.
Our waitress was nice and attentive. I liked the inside of their establishment and there was plenty of room to seat us even though the parking lot was fairly full. For two 12-in pizzas, no drinks or appetizers, we spent over $50. I feel there are many better options for both pizza and for other restaurants at this price point. We talked about our experience on our way home and we don't plan...
Read moreI think this would be a 4 for me, but it I’m willing to go back and try a different entree or a different day/time setting.
5s are for places I just love and would want to visit frequently. This was a place that was fine, and my friends just LOVE, yet it’s just FINE to me.
I was in a group with 8 people, and we had great service. All our orders were correct and the salads came at a perfect interval from the pizza. The pizzas looked equally baked and fresh - 7 different pizzas coming out at other restaurants have a lag time or you can tell one was underbaked just to speed up the process.
My group ordered 7 diff pizzas, and all of the pizzas had interesting toppings. I had the cheeseburger pizza, and it was good. I liked it. The pizza with pesto looked nice, and so did the Hawaiian and the bbq chicken. Someone had a sauerkraut sausage pizza and asked for additional onions, and she didn’t actually get many extra. Everyone liked their pizza, but there was no oooo or aaaah like we’d been told to anticipate.
Our drink orders were taken correctly and were never left empty, and the server was polite and capable and patient.
I spotted friends there who LOOOOOOVED their pizza and dessert pizza and told us how much the LOOOOOOVED it. So, maybe our group just isn’t as pepped up for Pappos or maybe we didn’t order the awesomest things...
Read moreFollowing is my original review from last year. I feel I have to revise my review and go from 5 stars to 3.5 stars. Over the past number of months we've been to Pappos numerous times. I'm sad to say that the last few times were a disappointment. On 3 different occasions we ordered the breadstick appetizer. One time we never got it cuz they gave it to someone else and the other 2 times the pizza arrived just a few minutes later! The other day we ordered the Mama Mia meatball cuz we had enjoyed it the first time. Another disappointment. It was so bland and tasteless and hardly had any cheese! (Stop being so stingy with the cheese!!) I'm really not sure we'll be back any time soon. Original post: We're from Chicago and we joke that we are pizza snobs. Dined at Pappos for the first time last night, and it definitely won't be our last. Great pizza! The sauce was so tasty and the crust was fantastic! So light and perfectly crispy. We had the Mama Mia Meatball and were not disappointed. Can't wait to try some of the others....
