I love supporting family owned businesses but this has been my worst experience yet. I grew up in an Italian American family. I spent many trips visiting family in NYC and my favorite desserts are black and white cookies, rainbow cookies and cannoli.
I did go right before they were closing, but the black and white cookie was the most disgusting thing a bakery ever served me. It was also 5 bucks?!? It was hard as a rock. The cookie base itself was really hard and crumbly and the icing was overset. It tasted stale as if it had been baked days ago, similar to what I'd imagine cardboard would taste like. That's disgusting that they would still sell a product this old.
The cannoli were also a disappointment. I got a plain one and one with almonds. The shell was so soft, which is an indicator of a cannoli that is not fresh and the cream was more custard than the delicious rich and creamy ricotta/marscapone filling in used to. This is not a traditional cannoli. I cannot believe this is the best Columbus had to offer. I didn't even bother with the rainbow cookies because they looked pre-packaged and not something homemade.
Lastly to make matters worse, the lady behind the counter looked openly annoyed with me and didn't help me until a couple minutes after I said hello to make her realize I was there. It says it closes at 3 and I was there at 2:15, so it's not like I walked in a couple minutes before closing.
I'm sorry for ranting, but based on this experience alone I do not plan on going back unless someone can...
Read moreCame for lobster tails. I was very dissapointed the cream wasn’t ricotta based as that’s what they’re supposed to be. Tasted kinda like pudding mixed with cool whip. I’m sure it does better on the shelf but it’s cutting a serious corner and changes what the pastry even is. Besides that they had them filled and sitting already for who knows how long. Anytime I’ve ever gotten one in my 30 years which is many many times as they are my favorite, they have always filled them after ordering to make sure the lobster tail doesn’t absorb the fillings moisture and change the texture. My lobster tail was not crispy for this reason and it tasted stale. It was cool on the inside of the bakery I like the way they have things decorated definitely a vibe. The friendliness could be a lot better. I walked in with a smile and quickly felt out of place having it because the two people out there a woman behind the counter and an older man sitting at the table who I believe is the owner low key acted like they didn’t want to interact with me and all I was looking for was a basic smile and hi. Even a lil head nod to my kind hello would have worked. I also bought some of their bread and while I love how soft the texture is, I felt it could use more salt and sugar or honey...
Read morePrepare to be AMAZED the second you open the door and the warm rush of air brings a heavenly smell of fresh baked breads and baked goods that would break even the hardest of dieters wills before you can even exhale!! If there is a more authentic Italian bakery in Ohio that produces goods that are of Auddino's quality and taste I have yet to see OR EVEN HEAR of it. I know many would go on about the bread (rolls, buns, etc) made & sold here as the praise is justified but when I am in Columbus I come to Auddino's for something other then the bread. I come for that glass front, multi tiered layers of heavenly choices, decision forcing, anti-Atkins, display case of cannoli, pastries, glazed croissants, .... Ok I'm stopping or this second box is NOT going to make the hour drive home either. Don't be fooled by the warehouse look of the building. The doors on the far right side if your facing the building. Go inside and check it out for yourself. The lovely older Italian lady who helped us was, as always, was great! She is a saint for having such patience while I decided what I wanted. They should have a giant "I'll take two of EVERYTHING box" as nothing there...
