In my opinion, it's as if Jimmy and Dee Haslam, owners of the Cleveland Browns became operators of this new establishment and destroyed any resemblance to the other great halls, North Market(s) and Budd Dairy. Recently, I drove over from Ace Hardware to check it out and immediately I sensed doom and gloom. How you may ask? Let me count the ways: I apparently pulled up to the back of the place unbeknownst to me as zero signage is back there other than a paper sign scotch taped that said this particular door is broken and another garage door with mud/dirt? slimed all over it. I walked in and noticed a cafeteria type seating area with rooms and a few doors that looked like supplies and storage. One employee? as I walked around looked at me and I glanced back and figured out that maybe the 3rd door I saw might be the one to the actual food court, but with no sign-on it, I was thinking Monty Hall here. Luckily I picked correctly and proceeded in to what seemed like promise, but really was a complete disaster. I looked around and saw a few food establishments and what looked like a flower place around a corner and then chose something that looked like it sold sweets with no line of people in front of it. First, the girl running this 'Cheesecake Girl' was more interested in her phone than me ordering, let alone giving her money. I asked a few questions about the case items, but I might as well been asking about cold fusion as she glazed when I asked about the puppy treats. Several minutes went by as she figured out how to package three items I purchased, so I started looking around. Here are the things I took note of; One, the place was dirty, carpets dirty, trash around and simply nothing wiped down. Two, pinch points abound everywhere and it wasn't even busy IMHO due to misplaced tables and chairs. Three, no signs that actually told me instantly what food/drink/wares were being offered, but instead forced me to walk around the place, which I really didn't want to do. Four, the staff taking orders, I also ordered from Fay's Crepes were simply clueless. The patrons in front of me there took close to 5 minutes to simply have their order taken, which made me think that the staff hadn't trained this person. When my turn came to order, it then became surreal. I was standing in one place facing the opening and telling the order taker what I wanted, but then somehow had to then move to another place, moving around people and then sorta competing with someone else who was attempting to order, which made things just bizarre. I ordered six (standard size) dry rub lemon pepper wings, which ended up wet not dry and then afterwards I was told there were only five wings. I said okay, but could you adjust the price to reflect the five and then glances from the staff from everywhere. I said out loud, am I asking too much here? I then also asked for the strawberry crepe, which in theory should have been really good. crepe, whip cream, strawberries, what's not to love here, but as I was waiting, the surreal part became apparent, a packaged plastic paper product fell right down on another order of what looked similar to mine. Remember the guy ordering also at sorta the same time? yea, it was his crepe and I mentioned to him the product hitting his food, thankfully not mine as the staff didn't bat an eye as they pulled the plastic paper product off the crepe and put it back on the shelf and didn't say a word to anyone. Classy, no sense of food safety at this place and the guy waiting for his order didn't seem to care anyway. I got my order, ignored the obvious fine of contamination and took my food, the lemon pepper dry rub, cough wet, which was decent and newly found extra chicken wing for six, the crepe, meh, this was worse than a carnival fair roadie serving it up and my sense is that both business' will be gone soon. I'm not sure if I would go back, but time will tell. The food truck on Thursday/Saturday at Ace Hardware...
Read moreInteresting concept - a food hall in the suburbs. I visit my office in the area about twice a month and found this place for the first time today. I’d agree with other reviewers - the atmosphere is odd. Maybe it was the lack of people during the lunch rush or cavernous space. There’s an office park feel, doctor office waiting room. Something feels off and not as welcoming as dining at urban food halls and/or area restaurants.
The food options were wide ranging so that’s a positive. $20 for lunch (food + drink) seems to be the average price point. The food Hall’s website could be improved by having menus more easily accessible - I had to open each vendor’s website to see their offer. I was at a food hall recently that had all restaurant menus at each table - this made it easy for a group to talk about food together and plan out where they were going. This wasn’t an option here.
For me, food in Columbus tends to be super bland. I ordered from the Indian place and wished I would have added more spice. But hey, it’s Columbus so very similar to my experiences at other Indian places in town.
I would love to see a community soda fountain like other food halls - buying canned soda is not my preference. I saw advertisements for free soda refills at the bar but the restaurant didn’t offer any cups or fountain options so I’m not sure how that works.
New Albany doesn’t have a really exciting dining scene so this is absolutely a great addition. It just needs some more “life” to help turn it into a cool place to grab lunch and become more of a community hub. Otherwise, it might as well be a place for ghost kitchens that do food...
Read moreA group of eight of us went to eat dinner and play games. We brought our own games, but they did have a small selection there. We thought we were going to be able to shop, but there wasn't anything there today. One of the restaurants was closed, but there's very limited options. It's all International Food and nothing that is a common item, like pizza for instance. Part of our group went to the burrito Mexican restaurant, and the rest of us went to Hibachi run. The food at Hibachi run was not the best. Rice was dry and chicken was so overcooked you could hardly eat it. One of the ladies in our group ordered the steak and shrimp combo, and she didn't get any steak, just shrimp.
Other than the people working the cash registers at the restaurants, none of the other staff interacted with us. There were not very many patrons in there. We had reached out and spoke with Shannon (the manager) there ahead of time about reserving a table, and she was fantastic. The table seats are extremely uncomfortable though. The chair backs just have one thin little strip of wood, and it digs right into your back., other than that no complaints, we all had a great time and we will probably go back there again. It's a great concept, but really needs another restaurants that's more common to eat (especially...
