Because we have had a good experience with the Blacklick location, we chose Cazuelas expecting a comparable experience. That was not our experience. The server was inattentive and nowhere to be found when we needed something. It took about 15 minutes for him to come take our order and they didn't seem that busy. There was a group of 4 + a child seated near us that was very loud and by their conversation it was evident they were employees. The more margaritas they were served the louder their conversation got. While their discussion didn't seem inappropriate, their behavior was unprofessional. While placing our order, the music level was bumped up a couple of notches. There was a competition between the music and this party of employees. The server was not able to answer basic menu questions and he blamed the ambience in the room. Two out of 4 orders came out incorrect and getting chip refills as well as enough salsa for 4 people was a task. We ordered 2 additional dips for the chips and one came out after the meals were served. One order was sent back because it contained an ingredient that was requested be left off and when the plate returned to the table it was very clear the offending ingredient had been picked off as traces of it still remained in the food. This item obviously was inedible to the recipient. The other dish was missing 3 of the main ingredients as well as served with the incorrect sauce twice. This is a direct result of negligent kitchen staff - not the server. When the server was finally found he said he didn't know and would get a manager. If the young lady that came to our table was a manager, I would be surprised. We had an event to go to and had run out of time so when she asked what I wanted them to do about it, I told her I was done and said that we were not having a good visit to which she grabbed the dish and rolled her eyes with an exaggerated sigh as she walked away. On her way back through she told us that she would remove it from our bill. Getting our check was another drama as the server definitely was nowhere to be found. This whole experience took about 90 minutes out of our schedule. While we were at the event I had a hypoglycemic episode due to having no dinner. We were aware that we were in campus area and our dining experience may be a bit different but in a more laid back, casual way; not poor service and incorrect orders, unprofessional behavior and attitudes. Based on my experience I definitely won't return to the campus location. Cazuelas has great menu options and brings a new twist to Mexican food. Sadly, this location...
Read moreStopped in to see how if we found a new regular spot- we have not! The lunch portion fajitas were good and a good portion.
The chicken tenders and fries caused me angst. They charge a $4 up charge for anyone over 12 getting the same portion of food- this always blows me away. I asked the server and he told me he would ring it at the 7.95 under 12 price. I told him we were prepared to leave as I wasn't paying $4 more since they didn't offer a hi Ken tenders appetizer for my son who doesn't enjoy Mexican fare. We could have and should have just left, but he confidently indicated it was not big deal, "I got you". We ordered and enjoyed some of the chips and salsa provided. We also had water to drink.
When they brought the chicken tenders and fries I was suprised by what I saw. They literally cut a tender in half and we got 2 chicken tenders and fries, and as you can see from the inside, little chicken inside. 🤯 my mind was blown 😂 we laughed and decided to just eat and we could grab my son something in the way home if he was still hungry.
Then the bill came and the server didn't have me, as you can see it was charged as the price with $4 more. After a long discussion with him (he tried to say maybe it was the service fee that was different 3% service charge for using a credit card! I explained that the record shows the cost of $4 more and 3% of $100 would only be $3 so that couldn't be it...the manager came over and he explained the policy and how he doesn't set prices. I explained that I understood, but we were going to leave until the server told us he would just charge the $7.95.
The manager didn't know how to refund the bill to correct, had to call someone, ended up reprinting the record and took my card again. The server came over and said he did it right, must have been the POS...um no - the machine doesn't know how old someone is...
Just own it dude. Ultimately, I am waiting to see when the credit occurs, they did not provide me with a credit slip and there are 2 charges on my credit card as of today.
I don't think we...
Read moreI ate a very pleasant meal recently 7-9-2022] at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina at 2321 N. High St. [inside of -- and outside of -- an old house that is several blocks north of The Ohio State University campus].
Their air conditioning had been broken that day so most of their customers [perhaps all of their customers] had been eating outside on the patio in front of the building. After briefly considering walking further north on N. High St. and eating elsewhere [at a hopefully-air-conditioned location] I decided to stay and to eat outside [making sure to sit in the shade].
Having previously eaten at Cazuelas Gateway OSU [at 1542 N High St.] three years ago, I decided to order and eat the same exact food item that I had eaten at the previous location.
I ordered and ate Pollo Tres Quesos [in English, "chicken with three cheeses". This item had been brought to my table very quickly and had been absolutely delicious.
Eating at a nearby table -- and certainly the most interesting thing about my visit that I want to report here -- had been a man who had been accompanied by a white parrot that either would be standing on the man's shoulder or would be standing on the man's table while eating a small slice of "corn-on-the-cob."
It had never been clear to me whether the man had brought the parrot with him or if the parrot "lives at" that restaurant and randomly visits customers while they are eating there.
The next time I return to Cazuelas Mexican Cantina at 2321 N. High St., I plan to ask about the...
