I ordered through Grubhub and tried this place for the first time. I added the combo meat option to my vegetable rice and lo mien. That was a BIG mistake. Had I stayed clear of the boiled meat pieces I think I would have given more stars. OMG, the mystery meat slices were disgusting...large slices of undercooked, slimy, rubbery something. I think it might have been boiled pork??? The little chicken pieces had a weird texture. Some of them seemed undercooked as well. The shrimp was okay, probably because boiled shrimp is an acceptable way to cook it.
The rice was a beautiful bright yellow color but that does not make the rice fried rice. That makes the rice cooked with yellow food coloring. Correct me if I'm wrong. Typically, fried rice is "fried" with egg and veggies and protein options of choice. What I got was NOT real fried rice. No egg was to be found in the mix. I could have saved $$ by making a box of Rice-A-Roni, throwing frozen peas and carrots in it, and adding a scrambled egg.
The egg rolls were awesome and everything arrived hot so that was a plus. After plucking out the mystery meat and weird chicken pieces, the noodles and rice were okay. The additional cost of adding the protein was a total waste of money.
Sorry Taste of Orient. I was really hoping you would have become my go-to carryout joint for fried rice and noodle dishes. I might get some egg rolls from you in the future but I'll need some distance before flirting with that idea. This actually makes me...
Read moreExcellent value! We ordered 3 main dishes (two chicken, one vegetarian, all with rice), a large order of hot and sour soup, 10 pork dumplings, and 2 spring rolls. The total was $34.50! The cost of delivery was less than $3. And I tipped the driver. The food was delivered correctly within 40 minutes! The taste was very good and the portions were reasonable. (I prefer these portions rather than the super-giant, high-priced portions at Tai Bistro —a place I also like, but they don’t deliver.) Note: Next time I might not order the sweet-sour chicken for delivery because most of the crunch was gone by the time it arrived, but that’s normal for hot food traveling in airtight containers. And we live at the far edge of the delivery range, so I totally understand.) However, the broccoli was oerfect The order came with plenty of soy sauce, mustard, and a delicious dipping sauce for the dumplings, which were really really good, very plump and flavorful. The photo shows only a tiny part of the mountain of food we received. And we got a free egg roll; I don’t remember ordering it. It was delicious. Very friendly service by phone - nicest people! I will order again and...
Read moreMy go to for Asian fare ! After trying many places in North Columbus, I have settled on Taste of Orient. I started getting carryout early this year (2024) and have ordered 20 +/- times. The quality is consistent, never disappoints. My personal favorites are chicken cashew and Singapore noodles. The egg rolls are always just right, never a hint of grease to them and they're just as good cold for a snack the next day. Their prices are relatively low compared to other Asian restaurants and the portions are generous. The online ordering is very easy to you use and doesn't have an automatic mark up/service fee, so I usually tip a buck or two. After placing the order, it always gives a 15-20 minute ready time which is usually 25, since I go most often on Friday/Sat nights. Never have had to wait more than 5 minutes tops. My only advice, this is fantastic business, please don't...
