The food is great, however the service is not, and this is now only 1 of 3 restaurants I go out of my way to avoid. This used to be my ultimate go to Indian restaurant until the last year or two.
I ordered takeout, and I intended to tip $3 on pickup with my cash order. The person who gave me my order was insisting he keep my $1 change as a tip. I don't like anyone just saying hey I'm keeping this as my tip because that's rude. So I just let him keep the $1 and I kept my other $2.
I ask for utensils on my grubhub orders that are delivery and pickup and I don't get them. If I ask for them on pickup orders they act rude about it. This is why I stopped tipping when I order the food, if I get good service I'll then tip cash when I pick it up.
I dined in recently, and they tried to overcharge me. I either saw the bill on paper first or I did the math before they brought a device over to put my card into. The amount seemed to be more than my order so I requested on the screen for them to print off a receipt for me. I still had the credit card scanner in my hand when I heard the receipt print off at the register. The woman looked at it and tossed it. She came back over and I asked for my receipt. Immediately when she brings it she asks if I hit something on the screen to add on to my order (there was literally nothing that could cause me to make that mistake). There on the receipt was an entry of a garden salad... There were no garden salads listed on the menu that I saw. Needles to say she gave me a refund of the $5-$7 salad.
So, I won't be back, and if you're in the area go to Stoneridge shopping center up the street and go to the Himalayan Grille, Great food and great service. Cumin and Curry at Morse Crossing is also very good. If I want the Indian tomato soup that I used to go to Dakshin for, I go to the Carriage Place on Bethel Rd and...
Read moreAs a vegan I was very upset to learn that there is milk in their bread. We use to eat there all the time and get bread. One time the waiter didn’t bring it saying that it had milk in it. When I asked the owner about it, he dismissed it saying that “every bread has to have some milk in it to make it soft. But it’s such a small amount.” I said “ so it’s not vegan.” He insisted that it was still vegan. He offered to let me check out his back kitchen but I really didn’t understand the point. If it has real milk it’s not vegan. Makes me wonder what else has small amounts of non vegan stuff that he still labels as vegan.
Responding to owner stating I misunderstood him: There was no misunderstanding. I am aware that there are two types of bread. I was told prior to this incident that the Nan was vegan I have been served it on several occasions. I specifically asked the owner if it had milk after what the waiter said. I was told it had a "very small amount" and then told "it was still vegan." Milk is not vegan no matter how small the amount. Also, how can you advertise that you are "100% vegan" when you have milk in your bread? You have it on a very large sign outside, on a van, and other place. You're either 100% vegan or you're not. It's okay to be 95% vegan or whatever you actually are. Just don't advertise you are 100% vegan and then not tell your vegan customers that there is milk in something. After the discussion I had with the owner, there was incredibly unprofessional and very uncomfortable yelling of the owner towards the waiter telling him not to tell customers something isn't vegan. Since I specifically asked about the nan, I'm very happy that he warned me it wasn't vegan. How dare you tell your staff to not inform customers of non-vegan food. I will not reconsider my rating and wish I could...
Read moreRecently visited this restaurant. First of all, as an Indian I must say the food here was ATROCIOUS. I can't express the sentiment strongly without being over the top, and yet I will actually fall short.
Tried the paneer tikka masala, and the dish was watery and tasted mostly of black pepper. The rest of the spices were lacking to the point where barely any taste came through. - 4/10 I also ordered a Goat dish, which was overcooked. They managed to burn the onions, and didn't think it important enough to not add it to the dish; or simply re-do that garnish, so the mutton had a bitter taste and the flavor was over cooked as well. - 4/10 The biryani was barely passable. Which isn't saying enough. It was mildly flavored and the vegetables were barely treated with any care, tasted as if they were simply added to the flavored rice. - 3/10
Secondly, for the cost of the food, the final product delivered was completely substandard. The three dishes ended up costing over $50, and the quality was so poor I will no be able to return here in any good conscience. I generally do not do negative reviews, but this review should rather serve as a warning to others going here hoping to have a good time.
IF you want sub-standard, poorly flavored food that is treated with the same disregard with which Orcas treat their food, go here. IF not, you can comment here and I can give you suggestions for far more flavorful and authentic Indian flavors in the Columbus area.
(EDIT) Response to the owner's reply - I can visit Columbus and still be from a different country. I'm sorry you didn't like my review.
Update: Just down the street there is a place called Namaste. It is indo-nepali restaurant, it is very good food, unique taste. The food had a wonderful symphony of flavors and was not too spicy for those who...
