Let’s start with the appetizer. Steamed Mussel Pot with red sauce ($14) (comes with two pieces of bruschetta). Good god. The mussels were large and plump, not chewy, almost melted in your mouth. The red sauce was freaking amazing. Fresh garlic and a little bit of heat but not overbearing. I have no idea how many mussels were in this pot, but we finally finished them after we finished our entrees if that tells you anything, and they were still hot.
Entrees. I chose the Woodstock Pub Pie ($22). “Lamb & short rib braise, pearled onions, peas, corn & carrots in a red wine sauce topped with potato mashers & melted cheddar”. I think they may have forgotten the potato mashers, but who the hell cares, this dish was amazing! The lamb & short rib were so incredibly tender, and the sauce was chef’s kiss.
He ordered the Crown Tavern Prime Meatloaf ($28). “Prime ground beef blended with tomato ragout, herbs & spices, slow roasted & served with red wine demi-glaze, garlic mashed potatoes and balsamic brussel sprouts”. I HAD IMMEDIATE DINNER ENVY! I am not even exaggerating when I tell you that this was the BEST meatloaf either one of us ever had, in our lives. Like ever. First let’s talk about the size of this thing. HUGE, really big (not being a size queen)! Second let’s talk taste. I don’t know what type/grade, whatever, of ground beef they use but my god, sir may I have another? The mashed pot’s & brussel sprouts were very good. On our drive home we agreed that we could have easily shared this dish.
Desert. We shared a piece of lemon olive oil cake with crème anglaise & fresh strawberries ($8). Did we need to order this? No. Am I glad we did? Yesssss! The cake was moist and delectable.
Our takeaway. This was a wonderful dining experience from the moment we sat down. The atmosphere was inviting and warm, our server Jordan could not have been sweeter, the food came out fast, hot and absolutely delicious. 2 cocktails, 1 appetizer, 2 entrees & 1 desert came to under $100 (not including tip). We will definitely be going back and getting that...
Read moreWas meeting some associates at this establishment for happy hour. The first person that arrived was sat at a high top near the bathrooms by the bartender. She indicated that was her only table. There were several patrons at the bar, but every table & booth was empty. I had been there b4 and suggested the place (BIG MISTAKE). Anyway I asked the hostess if we could be seated at a booth near the windows, she said sure. The female bartender seemed perturbed about the move and spoke the female manager. Then the manager told us the booths were reserved (even though ALL the booths and tables were empty). She indicated we had to move, so we did. We left and met two other associates at the 2SP Taphouse a mile down the road. Their happy hour was excellent (a lot of food & drink promotions). We ended up spending over $250 & left a %50 tip (had a great time). The 2SP Tavern gave excellent service. 2SP Taphouse definitely knows how to take care of customers unlike the Crown tavern. I strongly recommend avoiding the crown tavern unless you want poor service, especially for happy hour (avg. food, very poor staff & lame atmosphere). The female bartender & female manager there on 11/26 should definitely have limited contact w/ customers. They're both unwelcoming and provide poor service to customers. There are definitely much better eating establishments nearby i.e. Gran Rodeo Mexican Grill, PF Chang's, Texas Roadhouse, Firebirds, Harvest Seasonal Grill, Taste & Sea, etc.. We'll definitely spread the word about the unwelcoming treatment we recieved at the crown tavern by the bartender & manager I assume they are unhappy with their jobs or lives. I suggest they seek employment that avoids interaction...
Read moreGood food, but unfortunately very inattentive service made for a disappointing evening. We've been before to the Crown and like the decor and food. For a Sunday evening meal we ordered the Soho Nachos, and my wife ordered Cobb Salad and I ordered Harvest Curry. Waitress took our order and then disappeared - a kitchen runner brought out the nachos (small plate with too many jalapenos, but tasted good). We started to eat the nachos but it was a bit difficult to eat these since we were not provided with plates. It's not easy to eat from a small shared plate in the middle of the table when you are eating a messy dish like Nachos. Finally she arrived (when we were almost done) and we asked for plates - which she provided (but late). Food came next (before we were really finished) and it was good. My wife's salad was just ok (and a bit overpriced for just OK), but the Harvest Curry was very good. Waitress didn't return though until we were almost done - would have liked to have had another beer but what is the point when food is almost done? What if there was a problem with the food - I guess I would have had to get up and search the restaurant for her. She dropped off the check, took our money and then took a LONG time to return....I don't know where she kept on disappearing to - I didn't see her in another part of the dining room but she clearly doesn't know how to check on customers..... Not sure if we'll be back soon - which...
