Before my review, I want to say that I appreciate the concept with the owners giving a portion back to the community food bank. That being said, they need to make improvements in the food if they are to survive in this location as they have stiff competition from Monty's and Akashi. The server and Manager were very friendly and the service was excellent. We had a large group for lunch on a weekday and the place was almost empty at 11:30. Service was excellent and the food came out in a timely manner. When I first looked at the menu, there just wasn't anything on there that made me think "Wow, I want to try that dish." Mostly, it's minimal breakfast fare and sandwiches with a few Cracker-Barrel style entrees. So, I went with the pulled pork sandwich. There was not much pork on the sandwich (compared to say McKenzie's or Rudy's) and it was stringy, dry and the edges were crispy as it appeared to have been sitting under a heat lamp for many hours. Pulled pork should be tender and moist. The coleslaw on the sandwich was good, but there was not much of it because it was a condiment. It would have been better as a side. The sauce was good, but there was only a smear of it on the top bun and none on the pork. If I was forced to serve this pork, I would have drown it in the sauce. My friend ordered the same thing and asked for more sauce as her pork was dried out too. The fries were standard, frozen fare, nothing special. I was starving, so I ate the food, paid and expressed to the server my opinion. He asked if I wanted to speak to the Manager and I declined as he could pass on the message. He offered a dessert and I declined. Several people had chicken salad sandwiches and they looked very average and were $12. They make their own potato chips and several people liked them. Another friend had pancakes and said they were cold. The restaurant is clean and very bright with a 60s diner vibe, but no dinner ambience. I imagine most of their business is breakfast and lunch. There just isn't anything on the menu that makes me want to come back and give it...
Read moreDon't waste your time coming here. Brings the value of Lake Conroe down. Breakfast food all taste like it's microwaved and the staff is clueless. Been here a few times and have experienced inconsistent charges on sides and drinks as well.
Have given them a few chances as I understand a new restaurant needs time to work out it's kinks. This place is sadly just a bad egg and another failed restaurant that will soon be replaced.
I ordered waffles the second time I tried them out and wanted extra butter for my waffle as it only came with a small scoop and ended up paying a $1 for an additional dollop of butter. Waitress never informed me it was extra either and the first time I came, I wasn't charged for extra.
Waffle came with chicken, they forgot to add in the chicken and it came out 8 or so minutes after the waffle. It was the same fried chicken strips you get in the frozen section at any grocery store.
Have been to MANY breakfast establishments and this is by far the worst I've experienced and that's saying quite a lot. Drive across the street to Kitchen Tails if you want made from scratch food that isn't microwaved.
Side note: beware of owners. If you leave a bad review posting your truthful experience , they will have you blocked.
Don't open a restaurant if you can't take criticism to correct your errors.
Also, I remember which card I paid for if the bill for the extra charges is able to be pulled up. First time I got 3 orange juice refills and no charge as well, second time I got charged for...
Read moreMy omlette was good. Service was friendly. Tried my mom's corned beef hash breakfast and it was AWFUL. First of all, big cubes of corned beef is not a "hash". The corned beef was tough as shoe leather, and bland. I also have to comment on the breakfast potatos - which are likely on most breakfast plates served here. They are cooked perfectly as far as texture and "doneness" but they are COMPLETELY tasteless and devoid of any flavor. My mom had a pile of those horrible corned beef leather cubes, on top of a pile of those completely tasteless potatos. Just awful. My dad's bacon also had kind of a strange flavor. I feel bad because everyone was so friendly and the service was great! But that was legit one of the worst restaurant breakfasts I've ever tasted, other than my omlette which again was actually quite good.
I want to support local businesses so I will come back another time to try the dinner or lunch, but I sincerely challenge the kitchen to work on those potatos. They are so well cooked but maybe fry them in some bacon fat and hit them with some seasoned salt or something. The texture is the hard part to master and they NAILED that. Seasoning is easy. For the corned beef hash - chop it into fine pieces if you're going to sell it as a "hash". Do not overcook it, and again, it needs seasoning as well as a cook method that doesn't make me feel like I'm gnawing on a shoe. I don't want to bury a local place with nice people so I'm giving 3 generous stars. Please improve the food and I will happily...
