I came here with my mom for breakfast on a Sunday recently. We were the first customers there and had to wait 10 minutes after opening time for the restaurant to be ready for us. Since we already had our minds made up on eating here, we waited.
We were hoping to have freshly baked breads with our breakfast, but were informed they wouldnāt be ready for another hour. Initially, we were a little disappointed, but decided we would take our time eating breakfast to have bread as a treat afterwards.
Our breakfasts were delicious and the portions were of good size. The person who took our order didnāt seem super familiar with each menu item, but was able to provide what we asked for. Not knowing the contents of each menu item is understandable, since the restaurant is still new.
When the freshly baked breads were ready, we were notified and were able to order some to try before we left that day.
To me, all the food we ate tasted authentic and delicious. We had huevos pericos, chicharrón, arepa con queso and the freshly baked pan de bono. The coffee could have been a little stronger, but that may be a personal preference.
The food deserves 5 stars.
The service is great, but could use a little improvement. The timeliness of opening the restaurant and checking to see if customers need a refill on anything is what was lacking.
They seem to have live music on the weekends in the evenings and in the morning there was music being played over the speakers which may have been a little loud for breakfast. Again, not a huge deal, just a bit loud for 8am before coffee :)
Go support this local business and try some delicious Colombian food.
Colombians come from different regions of the country where seasonings are used differently.
That being said, for those that do come out to try the food, remember, everyone seasons their food a little differently! And if you make it better at home,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a Colombian in houston, our options here Northside are limited. When I heard this place was opening, I was ecstatic. I went to try it out. My girlfriend and I had 2 empanadas de Carne and 2 empanadas de Pollo. The Carne ones were okay, but the chicken was honestly disgusting. I never complain about food, but they were just bad.
Anyway. Over to the main dish. I had a Bandeja paisa. The chicharron was obviously old. It was fried and left to sit with the oil and was mushy and soggy. The chorizo was extremely dry. Rice beans, arepa, and avocado were okay. I didn't eat the egg because I didn't really trust them with it. My girlfriend had the breaded chicken with cheese and ham in white sauce. I've had this plate in many places and suggested it to her. Worst desicion ever. Breaded chicken was dry. They slap on a slice of ham and a 1/4" thick slice of cheese. Not even melted. (The original platter has the cheese melted). And the white sauce is basically hot milk (which should be almost like an alfredo). The sauce/milk was the only thing that made the chicken moist, and it was just nasty. Oh, and it also has mushrooms, but that's never mentioned in the platter, and the original platter doesn't come with mushrooms.
Moving on to drinks, we had two mojitos, which were actually good.
So, overall. She didn't finish her plate, I took mine to go and ended up throwing it out at the gas station next door.
If you're the type to spend 70$ on two mojitos and sh*t food, then look no further. But if you want a better taste of Colombia's amazing food, I recommend La Olla, which is also in Spring. So glad I didn't take the trip out to...
