Five stars for La casa del abuelo in Spring, Texas!
From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed with a warm smile from the attendant who was attentive and helpful about the menu. My wife and I recently visited to welcome this great Salvadorean Latine restaurant to Spring, and we left with a big thumbs up and a happy heart.
We started with fried plantains, which were fried to perfection with that ideal sweetness and a subtle, satisfying crunch at the edges—the kind of caramelized edge that makes you say “wow” with every bite.
For entrees, I ordered the bistec acaballo (bistec) and my wife ordered the pupusa platter. The bistec plate was beautifully presented and smelled wonderfully inviting. The beef was tender and melted in the mouth, seasoned with a delightful Latin blend of spices. It came with wonderfully caramelized onions and bell peppers, two eggs perched on top cooked just right, and a side of white rice. The rice was fluffy and infused with a savory chicken stock note, and the black beans carried a hint of Salvadoran cheese. The accompanying salad—lettuce, tomato, cucumber with a green lemon avocado dressing—added a fresh balance to the plate. Truly delicious and satisfying with a rich Latin flavor profile.
The pupusa platter featured three varieties—cheese, chorizo cheese, and bean pupusas. The corn pancakes were perfectly cooked, with that signature cheese pull and a crisp edge. Each bite offered a delicious explosion of traditional flavors.
For dessert, we shared a flan. It was fluffy and lightly sweet with a smooth custard texture. The caramel topping wasn’t as strong as we hoped, but it didn’t take away from an overall excellent meal.
In short, La casa del abuelo is a standout for Latin cuisine in Spring. The service, flavor, and authenticity earn a definite five stars. We highly recommend stopping by and trying this place. If you’re looking for great Latin food in the area, give La casa del abuelo a visit.

We stumbled upon this gem while searching for a place on Google Maps. We’re thrilled to have discovered it! Supporting small family businesses is something we truly value.
As soon as we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted and invited to choose our seats. They promptly brought us the menu and our drinks which they have Mexican Cokes and Horchata. Our appetites were already whetted, and we couldn’t resist ordering some Pupusas. To complement our main course, we also decided to add a tamales de pollo.
The ambiance of the place was fantastic, and the food presentation was impeccable. The Pupusas were a revelation, crispy on the outside and not greasy at all. The flavor of Revuelta was delightful, not overpowering with salt or other seasonings.
One small suggestion would be to ensure that the shared bathroom remains spotless and immaculate. It’s a common area, and cleanliness is always appreciated.
Overall, I highly recommend this place. It’s a must visit for anyone looking for a delicious and enjoyable dining...
Read moreEverything was wonderful. First off the Pupusas. They have 4 types, a traditional cheese one, a traditional bean one, one with beans and chicharrones and a floral one (Loroco) The Loroco one was by far the most unique but they were all delicious.
Next the Tortas. We got the beef fajita torta and the Al Pastor torta. They came with a delicious sauce and upon request a spicy Serrano sauce on the side. The bread was fluffy, the meat perfectly seasoned and tender. Highly recommend.
Now the Carne Asada. That sauce! The chimichurri sauce was extra garlicky in the best way possible.
You have to try this place. The owners are friendly, informative, accommodating, everything you can want.
