Update OK Ike's has really showed up and showed out we went for dinner on Sunday I wanted to give them another chance and we dined in first of all I got egusi AGAIN and peanut butter soup. My partner got egusi with okra soup we also started with beef suya and the fried wings. Let me say this in all Caps... IKE'S YOU ALL DID YOUR THING THAT EGUSI WAS PERFECT MY WAITRESS WAS THE SWEETEST AND I COULD SMELL THE BLEACH AND FELT SAFE. YOUR BEEF SUYA MELTED IN MY MOUTH AND THE OKRA SOUP OMG. BUT THAT EGUSI YALL GOT ME BACK.
I missed you all. Although I was very disappointed the service this week was impressive. I will be back. I loved the live music as well!!! Such a vibe. I'm glad I gave it another chance!
I eat Ike's probably once or twice a week everytime I have come they know they can cook the best egusi and today I ordered the norm my two egusi one with beef one with tripe and a jolloff with suya and beef the lady then told us that I could only get one after I placed my order and came to get what I asked for someone could've called if it was an issue. She said I could only get one beef so they gave me suya and that's fine until I open and see 5 small burn pieces of meat and some fat the stewed vegetables and the rice was so flavorful. The egusi was pure grease and water and I barely got any beef or tripe. Not good. I want to say maybe it's because it's Sunday and they are busy but I did pay $65 and barely enjoyed it I didn't eat the egusi this time and we always order it because Ike's is the place to come for the best I mean the BEST African food you can get in this area. But it was by far the worst experience today the rice tasted amazing but was so undercooked. I wish I could have gotten it remade but when I called the lady said sorry WOW. Do better Ike's I have to find a consistent spot. I hope to have a better experience if I return. I really hope it's because they...
Read moreNeither the receptionist or any of the other staff members acknowledged me upon entry. Not so much as a warm welcome, nod in my direction, or at the very least a "be with you momentarily". I just stood there waiting & staring in silence at the lady that was behind the counter by the door for a few minutes while a To-Go order was completed. Once she decided to look up from the computer & finally speak, she was very professionally polite. Which certainly helped turn the tide on the rapport. We were seated shortly after in a spacious booth. The waiter was kind, well informed on the menu/ingredients, answered all our questions, & brought us everything we asked for. The cocktails were lackluster, leaving a lot to be desired. The mango margarita was well flavored, but served in a super tiny martini glass. The frozen pinas were mostly chunky ice bits with barely any noticeable liquor in them. The food was alright. The Nigerian jollof rice & lamb suya (although a little dry) plated with a basic cucumber salad on the side, were both tasty & well seasoned. The okra soup was too slimy for my palate. The egusi soup appeared to be one type of stock made with the greens & whatever else, combined in the same bowl with a separate batch that contained your meat of choice. The chunks of beef cooked in a tomato base were incredibly tough. The dish was spicy, but not uncomfortably hot. The fufu was bland (white or yellow), but the texture was acceptable (not doughy as anticipated). The takeaway is, figuring out what you want by name in advance is not enough. You then have to decide from the various selections how you want it made. Play it safe & choose wisely. Failing to do so could make or break your dining experience. The good thing is, you do have the ability to ask for samples. Which helps avoid receiving a full serving of something that you simply won't...
Read moreFood was pretty good with it being our first time trying Nigerian after being brought there by a friend. Server was nice enough but we had to ask for drink refills more than once. She would take our order and drop off the food, not much engagement or personality from her. We didn’t get our plantains the first time around but didn’t mention it or make anything of it but somehow got charged for it. I sent back the wakye because they apparently use shrimp powder in it but it does not show in the description and maybe husband cannot eat shrimp so we sent that back to the server but again still got charged for it and prices didn’t match the menu. The server wouldn’t agree to take that off our bill even tho we didn’t eat it. I asked to speak with a manager and I got a full run around from one person to another and was told the manager is not available. Come to find out the first employee I spoke with at the host stand was a manager but referred me back to our server. It legit took 30 mins for the bill to be adjusted for whatever reason and we still got charged for the rice that we didn’t eat. we finally paid the bill and I waited after to speak to the manager to which I would’ve ideally liked to speak to when we had an issue at first. Literally spent almost an hour just sitting at the restaurant after spending $100. The manager I was able to speak with was very kind and apologetic which I do appreciate. But coming from the restaurant industry it should’ve been handled completely different. If there is an issue with something with a guest, there should’ve been manager involvement period if the server cannot assist. We could’ve avoided any inconveniences if done so. Because at this point I cannot get back that 45 mins that was wasted sitting around waiting to get things resolved. I don’t know if I’ll be back...
