I went to the Casselberry location for the first time with my son. I'd never visited La Lechonera before this day. My son highly recommends the food here. He brought home the yellow rice with pigeon peas, stewed chicken, and red beans with a side of house salad for me to try one day, and right away, I was a believer! The food is incredible, and it was equally incredible the day I finally went in for my first visit with my son. When I entered, the place was immaculate! Scrubbed clean from top to bottom. There was food lined up buffet line style and ready to serve. It ALL looks absolutely amazing! The service was very "school cafeteria lady" in attitude. One of them actually asked my son to move the Styrofoam containers up to the edge so she could load them up and got snippy with my son because he doesn't speak Spanish. Asking a customer for help with your job is highly uncalled for. You walk around the buffet line and do it yourself, don't ask the guests, this isn't your home, this is your place of business! I could see why there were no customers dining in even though there was indoor seating available. It's more of a "take your food and go" kind of vibe in there. We got 3 full meal boxes, my son and I got the same chicken meal we love, and we got my husband his favorite plantain dish called Mofongo with shrimp. We paid over $40 with a few small extras, like Yuca fries, extra beans, etc. But these hefty servings could easily feed double, we're just greedy eaters! Our 3 servings fed our family of 4 with full, satisfied bellies all around! I really can't say enough about the food here. If you do go, always ask for the meat juice to be poured on to rice, a little tip for you...
Read moreFinally stopped here for lunch with my kid after months of driving by daily. Pulled into the parking lot and got a spot because someone was leaving. Walked in and the smell of flavors was very welcoming. A lot larger inside then it appears from the outside. You can choose either a table or booth if you are eating there. Very plain but clean interior with a couple large screen televisions playing. Large electric menu boards hung over counter with all the options. It is set up cafeteria style. Various rice and beans begin then a large variety of proteins. Then lastly sides, desserts and beverages. It is now I have an issue and let me be clear this is more my fault then theirs. There is definitely a communication barrier. First the menu board has the name of all the different items but no descriptions. Me being ignorant of Latin food and and the Spanish language didn't really know what things were. I had to go by smell and look and point to what I wanted. I chose the Stewed Ribs with yellow rice and black beans with a couple plantains. It was amazing, very flavorful and large portions. My son got the Pork and white rice with some fried potatoes. He said it was very good. Here was another communication issue when ordering my beverage the lady didn't understand "Mountain Dew", she had to get someone to translate. Being a novice to Latin food I must say it was delicious, the price was very reasonable. I totally recommend this restaurant. My only suggestion is add descriptions to the menu boards so people who want to know and learn about the food won't be so intimated at your very large...
Read moreI placed an order through Posnotes of Uber. I ordered the Lechon, Ribs al carbon, Quajito, and Conch salad. I received the most disgusting food I have ever ordered in my life! I have never ordered a conch salad where the conch was brown and so soft it melted in your mouth. These people use canned scungilli! It tasted so nasty I just threw it all away, and I paid 18.00 bucks for that trash! The quajito was even worse, I have never tasted such a nasty-tasting tripe in my life, it actually made me throw up! I have eaten quajito all over PR and NY, but this is absolute trash! Even the Lechon, for which I paid another $18.00, was nothing more than pulled pork. All their food comes with an overdose of Cilantro and recao! This restaurant would not last a single day in Puerto This food is an insult to Puerto Rican cuisine! Rico, or even NY! This food is nothing but an insult to Puerto Rican cuisine! BTW, I still cannot get that demonic taste and smell of recao out of my taste...
