San Jose Restaurant — Restaurant in Lexington

Excellent from start to finish. First I would like to note that the restaurant was immaculately clean, including restroom's. While there an employee that cleared a table apparently did not do it correctly and they were brought back to re-clean it properly in very hushed tones, in a discreet manner, but as it should be, nothing worse than sitting at a sticky table and wondering about the cleanliness of the kitchen. We are new to the area and it was our first visit, but absolutely not our last. WE will be back and look forward to entertaining our many visitors/guests there as well. My husband had the Pescado Asado, grilled fish with veggies and rice and I had the Carne Asada, steak, pico de gallo, rice, beans & avocado. The seasonings were spot on, both fish and steak were cooked perfectly, the veggies fresh, not frozen, not mushy or over cooked. The rice was fresh not hard and not over cooked, the same for the beans. Did I mention how great the seasoning was? A very nice blend when it hit the tongue, something to eat slowly and savor all the flavors. It was so good that we placed an order to-go for later that night (as our kitchen was still unpacked). We decided on the Shrimp and Scallops Fajitas for two and were not disappointed at all, we made 4 generous meals from it easily. The waitstaff from entering to exiting were all very professional and we couldn't ask for a better experience. We really appreciated our waiter, he knew when to be present and when to lay low, very attentive to all of our needs, very well trained, very impressive. If I could give partial stars, it'd be 4.5 stars

Depending on the time, you could receive incredibly attentative service or scarce service. Although the food never takes long to arrive, and for us its always been well cooked and hot - the only reason it isn't five stars is because a lot of items they have are not on the menu - for example, I love to drink ciders so I will typically order Angry Orchard or Redd's. Sometimes, I will attempt to order an Angry Orchard (and even so far as to speak the words in Spanish) and the waitress/waiter has no idea what I'm asking for - though I know they have it as I've ordered it many times (we frequent this restaurant at least 1-3 times a month). I hate to inconvenience waiters/waitresses because they have to deal with a lot - but they do tend to sit tables of two in rooms with a lot of children. If this is not your scene, you may want to speak up.

The guacamole is tasty, but has no texture at all - its entirely avocado, and nothing else (no onions, cilantro, etc). The queso is really good, and they're attentive with chips. They tend to start out with a salsa between mild and spicy- but I do believe standard spicy is available.

I recommend the Shrimp and Scallop skillet, steak quesadillas, or beef tacos (#9 Combo). They're mango margaritas are also...

Arrived at 9:30. Ordered Pollo loco and it wasn't good. Took a bite literally and didn't like it. It was bland, no seasonings just plain. Wasn't asking for a refund at first just wanted to exchange it for something of the same value or less. Was told that the grill was being cleaned and they weren't able to make anything else. Asked for a refund. Recieved a check and was told I had to talk to the manager first to have it removed. Went to the front waited for manager. He was nasty the entire time. Said there were never any complaints about that particular dish. I told him I didn't like it. He continued to say everything is good never had a complaint. Making it seem like I was the one with the problem. I told him I'm not paying for something I didn't eat so angrily he began removing items off my ticket with an attitude still Mumbling there has never been a complaint about the chicken. To avoid an argument, I didn't pay him anymore attention. Still tipped the waiter bc he was great, I just didn't like the pollo loco. I wasn't rude nor angry he was just nasty with me. I will never return. First and absolute last time. Hope everyone else has a better...
