Señor Tequila's — Restaurant in Germantown

I have been coming to Senor Tequilas for years and am so impressed with the evolution of this restaurant . The food and drinks are phenomenal - the chicken nachos and frozen lime margaritas are my absolute favorite. However, today I finally understand the true success behind this business and that is one of the owners, Alejandro Rivas. I work in HR and have been fascinated by the high performance of the staff at Sr Tequila. Over the years, I see the same faces but playing in different roles in the restaurant. Today, I had a conversation with one of the owners, Alejandro and I asked him how he is able to maintain a high performing and engaged staff. His response blew me away. Instead of giving me a 10 second off the shelf answer, he spent over 10 minutes engaging in conversation with me. Throughout our conversation he even paused to thank customers for their business as they were leaving. He articulated how he treats his staff like people instead of machines. He knows each staff member by name - he knows where they are from, their interests, their passions, their strengths and their weaknesses. He would point to various staff members and give me highlights. His team is diverse, both in culture and walks of life. He understands that they have a life outside of the restaurant and he respects the work life balance. He sees the potential in each of them and offer opportunities both inside and outside of the work place to show that he believes in their potential - he makes investments in them such as English classes and offers them an opportunity to showcase the role that they desire to perform in his establishment.

I am in awe of his servant leadership - when you dine, you see him on the floor, bringing food to tables, checking in on his clientele. Alejandro, you are an amazing leader! I respect you and your vision. I will continue to patronize your establishment and raise awareness so other leaders and restaurant owners can follow in your footsteps. You are compassionate, attentive and a role model for owners in the restaurant industry. Your restaurant is an outlet for people to build relationships, self awareness and success. I had the absolute worst experience ever last night at Señor Tequila. Not only did Jose mess up my order 3x, he was extremely rude to me and even insulting. The first time he messed up he told me “it looks a little weird but just try it”. I told him it’s not about it looking weird it’s about the fact that I want what I ordered. When I told him my order again he said that’s not what I ordered. I went over the conversation again with him telling him what I said and what his response was back to me, to confirm that we talked about it before and he just made a mistake. His response was “are you sure about that?”. We were already waiting for so long now I had to wait longer. My boyfriend finishes his food and I’m still waiting for mine just for Jose to still bring out the wrong order again. I ask him to fix it. After waiting for a long time again, the food is right but the sauce is wrong. I asked for Diablo sauce but he gave me the dipping salsa for the chips. I didn’t end up eating at all. The tacos we got was buy one get one for taco Tuesday. When I told him at this point we just want the check, I don’t want the food, he tells me he’s not gonna charge for the tacos I didn’t eat. I told him “you can’t anyway they were already free for the buy one get one”. I tell him he didn’t even bring the right sauce and he tells me he brought it out earlier…that was for my boyfriends meal, not mine. And they cleared the table already because Jose took so long to bring my food so the sauce was long gone anyways. He cut me off when I tried explaining this to him. He kept pressing me to take the food home. Why would I take food home that wasn’t the correct order…that I didn’t ask for? At one point I asked another associate for a manager and the manager never came, instead they just brought Jose back. He wasn’t concerned about fixing anything he was more concerned about arguing with me. Probably won’t be back again. If I do come back I’ll specifically request that I do not get Jose...

Senor Tequila's is AMAZING! I wish I knew about it sooner!! My best friend and I were out late and needed a non-fast food option that was still open. When we pulled up we both knew it would be a good food experience. The outdoor ambiance is so inviting we couldn't quickly decide on dining in or out! We stepped inside to test the noise level as it seemed a bit boisterous from the entrance but once near the tables we were comfortable indoors. The bar area looks cozy which you can see from the tables but it's far enough way to not disrupt dining in. A group of women were celebrating a birthday and I could absolutely see myself or anyone doing the same because it's a visual treat! The decor is so appealing that I couldn't stop looking at the backs of the seats and the exceptional light fixtures. Even the bathroom wall art is amazing. It's a cultural educational experience that I wish every minority owned restaurant would follow and if you visit you'll understand and appreciate it too. There are so many delicious menu choices that you'll have a hard time choosing. They show pics of each dish which made it harder to choose and if it weren't 10p I would've gotten multiple things, but now I have even more reasons to revisit! I started with chips and salsa, delicious blanco queso and the best quac with fresh cilantro you've had in your life!! I had one of the many delicious tacos with a side of vegetarian black beans which came topped with their own cheese sauce- almost fell out of my seat!! The simplest menu items are prepared exceptionally well. No overly salty meat but seasoned to taste with fresh ingredients. My friend ordered enchiladas and lived them. The staff was so attentive and courteous. We stayed late and instead of informing us that it was almost closing time or asking us to move to the bar, one staff stopped by to thank us for dining and to please come again! Hands down, best Mexican restaurant and menu I've seen in the DMV!! I dare you to visit...
