I absolutely ADORE The General Muir!! This past weekend was our 2nd visit to the location, 1st post-pandemic, and it was a great visit. Our servers were AMAZING!!! (Sorry I cannot remember the young man's name, or his trainees' name, but he was an average height young man with shoulder length curly black hair & he was training a young lady - the ticket only identifies them as 'Server A'). From this point forth, I only want to sit in his area because he was outstanding as a server. We sat inside, in a booth by the wall, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The restaurant was clean and the food was delicious. On my previous visit I'd ordered The Lower East Side platter and loved it so I ordered The Maven this time around, because I wanted to try the baked salmon salad...and also because TLES was so delicious. Our servers brought me The Lower East Side platter (see photo) because the kitchen left off the salmon salad but they quickly fixed the issue when it was brought to their attention and brought me a side of baked salmon salad (not pictured because I started digging in it before I remembered to take a photo). We also ordered the Chopped Liver - sooooooo goooooood!!! The bread was soft and tasty. I would definitely order it again! My friend ordered the Fish & Potatoes dish (with a side of scrambled eggs) and it was tasty as well. The only downside to this visit - and the reason for 4 out of 5 stars - is the amount of gravlax and nova salmon on the plate, they skimped this time. This is another reason I ordered the platter again, because of the amount of smoked salmon I received my first visit. For $24, I expected the same amount of smoked salmon, or more, but it was much less. I will not order a platter on my next visit, mainly because of this reason. Overall, it was a great visit and I cannot wait to go back. I'm already checking the menu to see what I want to try next.

My cousin and I decided to get brunch before she was leaving town. I know she's a vegetarian, so I wanted to make sure the menu had items on there that she could eat and this menu definitely did! I ordered the thyme after thyme, which was super refreshing! That drink was a great way to open up the palette before we got into our meal. We ordered latkes, the maven, poached eggs and grits and a bagel with scallion caper smear. The food was good because my cousin ate all the latkes and grits with there not being a single crumb left! I had the maven, which I thought was good, but the salads on the plate were ok. I thought the 2 spreads on the plate could have used more seasoning and didn't stand up to the lox or scallion caper smear. It wasn't bad, but I've had better. I thought that the scallion caper smear was off the chain! It was jam packed with flavor and I could eat a bowl of that. The right amount of salty creamy goodness. The lox was great and I truly enjoyed that. It wasn't too salty, and with the small amount of dill added, it was a great added touch to that delicate fish. I ended up getting a Reuben sandwich to go, which I thought was solid, but I've eaten better ones. That sauerkraut though in the sandwich was excellent! It was that 1 item in the sandwich that made my eyes pop, because it was a nice delicious surprise. Usually this is an after thought, but I felt this was the star and it tasted like it. A solid brunch spot if you want New York deli style food.

I went to The General Muir one Sunday for brunch with a friend. She is Jewish, and I am not, but she enjoyed giving me the history of Jewish delis and appetizers, how the menu was laid out (very intentional), and how even the kitchens and dining was done to keep kosher foods separate. It was delightful, and so was our dining experience. While we did have a short wait because it was busy, the atmosphere was well-lit and pleasant. Staff were friendly in all of their interactions. When we sat, we were poured water first thing, and we were given time to peruse the menu. We both ordered a chai, and I also ordered an Anne Bonny cocktail. Sweet, but delightful! The chai was also of excellent quality and served in a very wide-mouthed mug! The chicken club was up both our alleys for that day, though my friend had been here many times before, and this was my first time. The sandwich was stuffed, piled, and stuck with a toothpick in each half. Trying to pick it up was a task but achievable, and eventually, I needed to use my fork to finish it off. It was amazing! Chicken club sandwiches seem simple, and there are so many ways to do them up, but this was the best chicken club Iâve ever had. Their chicken club also has crisped pastrami on it, and Iâm usually not into pastrami, but it, too, was a tasty addition for texture and flavor! The only thing I managed for show and tell was a couple pictures of my drinks. Youâll need to go enjoy the rest of the menu yourself!
