The owner and his wife greeted me warmly when I walked in. He asked if this was my first time and I said yes. He then began dishing out samples and preparing my order of pierogis. First, he apologized, saying his English wasn’t that good. He did not need to! I understood him perfectly. He began telling me about all the meats he makes fresh on the weekend as his wife was slicing some for me to try! EVERYTHING I had was absolutely delicious and brought me backwards in time to all the BEST memories of childhood! Growing up in Pittsburgh, many of my neighbors were polish. And if we weren’t visiting, my dad always brought me to a place. When I tell you the flavors were not just on point, but BETTER…I am NOT exaggerating. This little spot smells amazing when you walk in. And underneath it is the smell of clean! I LOVE that. The food is quite OBVIOUSLY made with love and by people who know how to balance and build the flavors perfectly! The kielbasa was perfectly delicious! Hints of garlic were there but didn’t overpower! The head cheese would’ve made my dad SO proud! That was his favorite. And it was delicious and delicate! The pork loin was SO flavorful I HAD to get some for a sandwich. The cheddar stuffed pierogi with caramelized onion was the perfect size and the texture was amazing! The onions were a slightly sweet contrast and cooked to perfection! The pierogi were delicate, and the cheese inside was rich and creamy! I got a stuffed cabbage for dinner. But HAD to try it while it was piping hot. It again was PACKED with delicious flavor! Stuffed full of meat and rice, cooked to perfection and covered with a rich delicious tomato sauce! I actually had to force myself to put it in the fridge after the first bite! The mushroom soup that was today’s special, was delightful and balanced! It was complex in flavors. And one of those things I wouldn’t ever try to recreate because I know I’ll disappoint myself! I could’ve eaten a whole gallon of it! The polish pickles as he described it to me was something I’ve never had before. BUT will definitely be one of those things I HAVE to go back there for or my brain will never rest! This will now forever be a stop on my list! And his wife even said if I have a trailer with me, (I drive a semi truck) that I could call and order and she would bring the food out to the road to meet me! That, to me, shows that not only are these folks kind and generous, they are filled with love! Thank you so much for the delicious food!! My heart and stomach...
Read moreIt is by pure luck that I came across Three Pierogi while looking on Google Maps for things to do after finishing my workout at Planet Fitness on a Sunday afternoon. In an area dominated by big -box, impersonal retail stores, I was drawn to this family-owned deli selling homemade pierogies. Unluckily for me, they had already closed for the day. Still, I was determined to come back, which is how I ended up coming in with my father on Tuesday, New Years' Eve. The owner greeted us warmly and asked if there was anything specific we were looking for. His son was manning the counter and helped translate. As it was already after noon, I was anxious that they had already sold out all their homemade pierogi for the day. I inquired about the pierogi, prepared to hear an apologetic explanation that I had arrived too late. Instead, the owner pointed out the Magnificent Pierogi Refrigerator (my term, but there is no other name for it, you'll see.) Fully stocked, there were three pierogi flavors to choose from: potato & sour cream, mushroom & sauerkraut, and meat. I didn't think twice and gleefully grabbed one of each. The owner offered to cook them for us, but I had to decline since we were unfortunately short on time. The owner listed off some of his other tempting dinner selections, and I immediately perked up at "goulash." There were two varieties, both very delicious. Knowing my family is shy on spice, I chose to take home the mildly spiced version. We were also offered samples of their homemade kielbasa - both of which, of course, tasted extraordinary. All of this is to say, Three Pierogi is truly a HIDDEN GEM in the Poconos and that I fully intend to return for more homemade polish goodies at my earliest opportunity As other reviewers already mentioned, the family is exceedingly kind and generous. The quality of the foods they sell (and the pride the owner takes in producing them) is evident. If you're in the area (or on your way to Shoprite), definitely give this...
Read moreIf there were ever a definition of a hidden gem, this place must be it! They sell some incredible food here - some of the best Polish food I've had outside of Poland. For the deli section, I have tried most varieties of kielbasas they have, and all of them have been fantastic. The owner is always very patient with explaining what is in each sausage, the best way to serve, etc. In the spring/summer time, they have smoked salmon that they prepare in-house - if you are lucky enough to stop by around that time, I highly recommend it. Of course, their pierogi are amazing as well! My favorite is the mushroom/sauerkraut ones, but I have tried all the other kinds - all fantastic. I also love their take-out restaurant section as well. Each day, they prepare different freshly made dishes, so I just recommend asking the owners about what they have. Obviously, staples such as bigos and rolled cabbage are always delicious, but I have tried everything from fried fish to roasted pork that they don't have everyday. All amazing. Lastly, for the take out boxes, make sure that you are hungry - portions are...
