2018-11-03 My husband has been wanting to try this place for a while. I've heard rave reviews, and that it's a high-quality restaurant. So we decided to go on his birthday. We got dressed and heading out for 8:15 reservation. The lighting was nice, the booths were comfortable and laid out nicely so that everyone had their privacy. This was the best part, unfortunately.
Lackluster waitress and experience A waitress came over, black hair in a ponytail and smiled, and asked us if we been here before this was the first time. We said this was our first time. She kind of tilted her head, doing what I can only call as a "reverse eyeroll". We didn't get a happy "oh good, welcome!." For me, it came off as "Okay great. Newbies. Let me go pull out the script." She wasn't helpful, just dictated to us what we were reading. We ordered the four-course dinner. The initial selection you dip into the cheese was a good sized plate, and so we didn't want the salad that came with it. But like other restaurants where they asked you if you would like something in exchange or offered you a little more of something else, we weren't, and I regretted not getting the salad because we were both paying for it anyway. Throughout the dining experience, she never checked on us or even passed our table except to change the courses. I had bought a mojito, and finished it right after the "cheese course" of the dinner. I wanted to order a different drink, but she was non-existent so I just drank the melting ice in my cup until she suddenly appeared later with a cup of water which tasted like cool tapwater with no ice. Throughout dinner, she seemed rushed, anxious, and just not at all happy or welcoming. When she even brought the broth for dinner, she put it down heavily, startling me and my husband at how sudden and quickly she appeared, accompanied with the sound of metal hitting glass so hard I thought she cracked the cooking top. I watched and listened to other waiters around us and they conversed with their guests, were much more informative, and everyone seemed to be laughing and smiling. After the main course, I said to our waitress "the food was delicious" She responded with 'Oh that's good I'm delighted to hear that" and then she just rushed off.
$100 buck for this? For 2 people and 100 bucks later, leaving that waitress a tip, the food was so-so, we had to cook all the food ourselves which I wasn't aware of. If you order the mojo style cooking apparently that is 4.99 additional, but I guess we were charged per person, as we ordered "for 2" at $39 each. My husband and I ordered the classic four-course with a bit of everything for $39. We picked a garlic cheddar with the garlic so overpowering we couldn't taste the cheese and it made everything taste bland with garlic. We received pieces of meat that were half the size of a hockey puck, cut into four thus making them more adequate for sushi. The big shrimp which seemed the be the only good part for me and he liked the pork. We wanted the mojo style (which was amazing BTW) was an was an extra charge (there are only 4 styles to choose from if I remember correctly). There is no timer or clock at the table, so our conversation included me checking my watch periodically, and either winding up with undercooked or overcooked meat chunks. For dessert, we ordered the cookies and cream with marshmallow, although it tasted more like chocolate fudge and marshmallow, which what the best part of the four-course. You get little bits of waffle, fruit, and other assortments to dip. After a quiet, lackluster, over-priced dinner, we paid the bill, waited at the front so I could talk to either the hostess or the manager, but no one was there, so after about a minute we just left without saying a word. I wouldn't say you're doing it for the experience of it. Our experience: 20 minutes of watching the cook time of your own little bits of raw meat which also consisted as the main conversation, a mojito that tasted like sugar-free limeade.
I recommend this MAYBE for dessert....
Read moreWe came a week prior and had an a good experience with the male server who attended us. He did everything step by step and was sweet and cordial while doing so, I was craving it again since I am pregnant and decided to call ahead to reserve since this time I was coming with my little cousin who didn’t really want to eat just accompany me and my son who’s 4 and also wasn’t going to eat. I asked if there was a 3 course meal for 55$ and if so would I be able to get it since my little cousin didn’t want. The lady who reserved our table said yes but when I got there, we sat down and our server said that wasn’t possible and she didn’t know who we spoke to. I was confused because if someone is answering the phones, you should know who I spoke to… regardless I decided to stay. The waiter came back again and still hadn’t introduced herself just to let me know that they didn’t know who I spoke with again but that it wouldn’t be possible. I was confused so I guess she left and got the manager. He’s the reason this review was not one star and the reason I decided to stay and give it a chance. He was kind and professional.
On to the food- we got the alpine cheese (same one I had gotten last time) except this time, the manager poured the wine first and then said our server would be back… she came back 5 minutes later and began the putting the rest of the ingredients in. I don’t know why she didn’t do the whole process like the first time I came when our server did everything step by step but I know that this time our cheese just tasted like wine. It was so sad because I was really craving the cheese and the last time we came it tasted amazing. I kept trying to wait and see if the wine would evaporate but it just didn’t and we ended up leaving more than half the cheese on the table. We where still charged but I expected that. It wasn’t ten minutes later before my stomach just started turning and I had to run to the bathroom. It didn’t sit well at all and my little sister barely ate it because it tasted like alcohol and her stomach was also hurting really bad. I was disappointed and worried about the chocolate we ordered. When it came down to the chocolate part, once again there was steps missing. The first time we came our server melted everything in front of us and then flambeéd it. This time she just came back with the chocolate and ingredients already in the pot, set it down and proceeded to flambé it. Long story short, service was horrible and the cheese was not safe for me being pregnant and having a minor with me, I wasn’t sure why they put so much alcohol and why it didn’t evaporate like the last time we where there. I hope they fix these issues because we had a good experience the first time we came and even tipped that server way above 20%. This time i felt forced to even tip 5% because I didn’t have the heart to leave 0. The manager was the only positive thing, he was professional and very kind but the food and the service was...
