A Truly Fantastic Lunch at Sicilian Oven – A Hidden Gem with Deep Roots
Had lunch at Sicilian Oven the other day, and I’m still thinking about it. From the moment we walked in, the place felt warm and welcoming — comfortable in that old-school, familiar way, but with a modern Italian vibe that instantly put me at ease. The space itself carries a sense of nostalgia, as it used to be the old Beverly Hills Café — a spot I used to love. But honestly, Sicilian Oven has stepped in and made the location something truly special again.
Now let’s talk about the food. I had their cheesesteak sub — but this isn’t your average sub. It came on a perfectly baked focaccia bread that brought the whole thing to life. Rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. I also ordered one of their salads, and it was fresh, crisp, and well-balanced — a great complement to the heartiness of the sandwich.
The person I was dining with ordered a pasta dish (I wish I could remember which one), and they were just as blown away by the flavor and presentation. Every bite felt like something out of a family kitchen in Southern Italy.
To top it off, we enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine — selections made by our waitress, who couldn’t have been more friendly or spot-on with her picks. Each glass paired perfectly with our meal and added an elegant touch to an already memorable lunch.
If you haven’t been, go. Whether you loved the old restaurant that once stood here or you're simply looking for an outstanding Italian lunch spot with heart and soul, Sicilian Oven delivers...
Read moreMy husband and I, along with another couple, ate there last night. It was our first time. We arrived at 5:15. We were seated promptly and met our server soon after. We got waters and said we'd need a few moments, because we want to order a couple bottles of wine. She spent about 5 minutes explaining the menu. I couldn't really see why. It read like most menus. She was very nice. After 15 minutes we still hadn't placed our wine orders. It got very busy! Once we placed our food and wine orders, we were psyched!! Shortly after, our delicious salad for 4 arrived 😋. My husband's Chicken parm arrived along with our salad. Now, the strange thing is, our other 3 dinners didn't arrive for about 15 minutes. We asked if his could be warmed up when our food arrived, (as he did not wish to begin eating his dinner, until we all had our food). They said all food is freshly prepared, and made to order. They can't warm it up? My thought is, as I've worked in food and beverage, you must stagger the food entries so they are timed to arrive together, ( maybe, idk). All of the food was delicious and we had a fine time. However, entres should always be delivered to the entire group all together. It was awkward. Overall, I'd return. I will address this the next time we order though. Plus, we'll review the menu online, in advance, and place our wine order...
Read moreThe service here - staff are really friendly and attentive which was great to have. Our waiter was wonderful (and so were the other staff too).
Parking was plentiful and easy which was great.
-The food is where the stars in the review got deducted....
The pizza crust was entirely charred to the point the crust was blackened like charcoal. The pizza also didn't really have veggies on it even though the picture showed it with veggies. Had more eggplant than anything.
The calamari portion was tasty but the bread toast slice under it absorbed all the sauce for the calamari, turning the bread soggy and leaving you with no red sauce.
The tiramasu was not worth $10. It's a small amount in a tiny martini glass. I was told it would be enough for two people and no way it wasn't even enough for one person.
The salad was refreshing - has lots of flavor and veggies included.
And lastly, there were several flies buzzing around us and landed in our water glass. Our waiter replaced the water glass but with the amount of flies around the food area it did not feel sanitary... And by the point the fly flew into the glass of water and other kept buzzing around our food, I was grossed out and disappointed...
