South China Restaurant — Restaurant in Cooper City

I recently had the pleasure of dining at South China in Cooper City, and it was a truly satisfying experience from start to finish. The restaurant has that warm, family-friendly atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. The staff greeted me with a smile, seated me quickly, and throughout the meal were attentive without being overbearing.

The menu offers an impressive variety of classic Chinese dishes, along with some house specialties that you don’t always see at similar places. Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The portions are generous, perfect for sharing family-style or taking some home for later. The sesame chicken had the perfect balance of crispy texture and sweet sauce, while the beef with broccoli was tender and cooked just right. Even the fried rice stood out—light, not greasy, and seasoned well.

What impressed me most was the consistency. Every dish tasted like it was prepared with care, not rushed, which makes a huge difference. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes and quality. South China is definitely a local gem in Cooper City, and I would highly recommend it for anyone craving authentic, flavorful...

In Cooper City, there aren't too many Chinese Restaurants or Takeout spots. Our family used to order from No. 1 Wok when we moved here 13 years ago. Then we found Asia #1 a few years later when we got tired of the rude owners at No. 1 Wok.

For years we have contemplated trying South China in the Countryside Shops Publix Plaza, but we never got around to it. Well tonight, we decided to try it. The ordering experience (for takeout) was fine, despite the musty smell the restaurant gave off while waiting for our food. It's when we tried the food that we realized it was a huge mistake.

We ordered a few different dishes to try and out of 6 people, not one enjoyed their meal. The chicken fried rice was dry... the Szechuan chicken (med spicy) had NO flavor at all. The Beef and Broccoli was flavorless as well. Shrimp with Broccoli... flavorless. Vegetable Lo Mein FLAVORLESS.

I have no idea how there are any positive reviews for the food coming out of this restaurant when you could get much better quality (and save money) ordering from either of the Chinese Takeout spots mentioned earlier in this review.

I've ordered take out from here before and it was what you'd expect when you want take out. We did dine in this time. I have fond memories of eating in at Chinese restaurants as a kid and wanted to give my kids the memories too. We were seated right away on a Saturday night. It's a small place. They immediately bring out water, hot tea and those crunchy wonton chips that I so fondly remember as a child. Of course the kids hosed that down. We placed our orders for some common foods like sweet and sour chicken, chicken lo mein, honey garlic chicken and cashew chicken. It took some time for all the food to come out but we didn't mind. Food was good. Service was excellent. But the best part of the night was when we asked for the check our waiter said someone paid for us already! Come again? Yep.
