Maria’s Place — Restaurant in Copperas Cove

Rewriting my review. I’ve been to the place about 8 times prior to today. Place is under new ownership and I had a great experience. Our food was delicious. Ordered my eggs medium and the yolk came out a gorgeous, slow molten. If you’re new to the place, please try the French toast with strawberries, and cream cheese. Owner says the sausage is made in-house. Can’t wait to try it next time. This place does breakfast RIGHT. Coffee is excellent.

Recommendations: please play some universally pleasing music while we eat. Doesn’t have to be too loud, but it’s nice to feel like you can eat in company with discretion. I like the TV addition. Not crazy about the silent classic rock music videos. I’d consider adding mimosas to the menu. Girls generally like going out for brunch/mimosas on the weekends. When able, the furniture could use a revamp. I’ve seen great decor with inexpensive mismatched thrift store furniture just painted the same color. Really cool-looking. Some cheap thrift store tea cups could be cool for the coffee. The current set communicates a retirement home vibe to me.

I’m telling ya. NO ONE makes French Toast like this place. This place has French Toast CLAIM. This is one of the “go to” places to get breakfast in the area. I wish prosperity for this eatery.

One question. Does the French Toast sweet cream cheese still exist? We got whipped cream (which was beautifully spooned onto the dish). We’d ordered the sweet cream and got the whipped cream. I love a good homemade whipped cream, but LOVED the prior sweat cream cheese addition. If it doesn’t exist, I’m tellin ya, it MUST come back. It’s crucial to the French Toast reputation.

So before reading this review take note I travel the world and I personally cook in a professional level and I’m judging a little place in Killeen. Anyways. The hospitality is unbelievably amazing. Not just my waitress but everyone will check on you (we wasn’t the only table).

The food on the other was not the best -chicken was full with nerves, chewy and just low quality -the house bacon that is 6 dollars by itself was nothing special -the chorizo tacos was brought to me cold with a weak sweet taste. Chorizo should have a bold taste and be flavorful. Inspecting the meat it didn’t look season at all. -the over easy eggs was over cooked. -the waffle need to be mix better. The “great value” box mix taste better

Don’t get me wrong there was items that taste good but the only thing I remember is how amazing the service was. I truly hope the owner or manager reads this and sits down to try the food. Maybe tell the cook that it’s for a customer so they will cook it like they normally would to see if they’re just becoming lazy. There is a lot of space for improvement. I would change my review later to see if this wasn’t just a bad day in the kitchen

Just saw a review about the owner/manager cussing at employees and I won’t be supporting that. You reply back to everyone’s review but that one. You should take care of your employees. They’re the ones that make your business what it is. I changed my review to one star....

MINUS STARS ON THIS RESTAURANT

The staff is very friendly but there is a lack of attentiveness to tables/guests. One person walks around with a iPad and takes orders while the other 2 “waiters” follow this person around. It took over 20 minutes for someone to recognize us sitting at a table after being asked to seat ourselves (even though the sign when you enter states “please wait to be seated) That one person (with the iPad) FINALLY came over and told us that we would be helped on our drink orders after that said 20 minutes, why couldn’t she help us then? The lights were out so we were In the dark pretty much with whatever light the windows let in. There are 3 waiters on the floor and not a single one will come check your table to see if you need refills. They are however very good at hosting a bill and responsive when that bill is to be paid. I waited 45 minutes for a coffee refill along with my food being over an hour. I understand that it’s “scratch made” but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you see waiters eating before you IN FRONT OF EVERYONE and cooks taking photos of the food when you have been waiting so long.

Food is subpar and staff is not attentive. There should be some definite restructure in the dining area and probably the kitchen to make it run smoother. VERY UNSATISFACTORY WOULDN'T TAKE A...
