This is a great local market!! Don't get your seafood at the grocery store across the street, get it here. My mom wanted scallops for dinner, and they were $32.99 at the food lion. I told her to wait, and we'd take her to Seaside. Their scallops were $10 cheaper! She was very happy, and I think we've definitely made a repeat customer out of her. We also sent my sister- & brother-in-law and my other brother-in-law there for their group dinner dishes on our vacation. Everyone loved Seaside! They're very organized with their seafood counter - new TV screens show their availability and pricing, an upgrade from the handwritten boards. They have local seafood called out. We always grab local shrimp and fish to freeze and take home with us. Their 5lb shrimp special is great! They also have tons of sauces, different seasonings, local produce or produce from the nearest place (in June, they had delicious peaches from South Carolina). There's also local cheeses, eggs, milk, and baked goods. Step further in for wine, craft brews, wine slushies (which my one sister-in-law came back at least twice for!), fudge, hot boiled peanuts, advertised daily seafood specials... There's something for everyone! Seaside used to be a very non-descript place. No one really went there years ago. I'm not sure if it changed hands at some point, but in the last 7/8 years, it's just getting better and better with each summer season. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. We're back every year at least twice when we're in town, and it was a joy to share it with so many more people this year. If you're in Corolla and looking for seafood and local products, get to the Timbuck shopping center and go to Seaside. You won't be...
Read moreWe have been coming to Corolla for many years. Today was a Sunday, and our usual fish market was closed -so we gave this place a shot. All the fish looked great! But, it was mysteriously all sealed in ziploc bags… Still, we bought an old favorite, grouper, and prepared it exactly as we have for 30 years. After 8 minutes on the grill, it had the texture of mashed potatoes. We kid you not. The taste was kind of ok, but the bizarre first in a lifetime texture turned us off and we threw it away. The spiced shrimp, cooked by them, similarly tasted very bland but ok -and had a unique weird soft texture.
Our best hunch is that everything was old, as in 2 to 3 days or more old, and that the ziploc bags held a secret. Whatever, we will not be going back. Lesson learned: don’t buy “fresh” fish that comes already sealed in ziploc bags.
The peanuts we bought were ok. Nothing to write home about, but ok. 2.5 stars for peanuts and 1 star for fish - so 2 stars.
Update 9/17/21: As requested, we called the owner. They were very pleasant and gladly refunded our money. They said that they would be speaking to the fish supplier. Bumped...
Read moreWhile we had high hopes for our steamer pot that we ordered from Seaside Farm Market, the experience was anything but enjoyable. This was our first time ordering a steaming pot and we were assured that the directions included would make steaming everything very easy. We ordered customized pot and asked the employee before we left whether the directions covered what we ordered and he said it did. The directions did not say anything about hot to cook potatoes, the corn and the clams that we ordered. We also learned the hard way that the quantity ordered would impact how things would need to be cooked. This was never explained to us.
When I called the manager to share my frustration, it was apparent that she did not care about the experience we had or the opportunity to improve the experience for future customers. All she said is that "she doesn't know what to say". Most businesses would try to find ways to help correct the situation. This was not the case at all.
I would think twice before get a steamer pot from Seaside Farm Market unless you are an...
