Black Monk Tavern — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

Definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" places. We were given a recommendation to go here, so we did. When we arrived, it had just gotten dark, and the parking lot was still mostly empty, with a single light shining on the skull & bones. Since we had our 2-year-old with us, my wife said we should just leave and go elsewhere, but I said we should at least peek in.

The interior was nearly empty except for 3 patrons at the bar, but the staff seemed friendly, so we decided to give it a try.

Boy are we glad we did! Though they had no high chairs, they more than welcomed us, AND our daughter. Everyone was super nice, from the staff to the other patrons -- very friendly without being overbearing. And the food was outstanding!

Love Black monk! Worked there at one point in time a few years back, but was a Patron of this wonderful establishment for the year and a half I lived in cc before that . Love the dive bar feel! The patio out back is stellar and I am pretty sure it is handicap accessible throughout too. I definitely recommend coming before the kitchen closes.... Honestly the best Cajun fusion I've eaten, gives Louisiana an honest run for their money! Seriously great craft cocktails and a pretty top notch selection for a drive bar too. Black Market well-established Tavern it's a little hidey-hole right off of Airline and gollihar by next to the church it's set back in the neighborhood quiet bars quite yet they got crafts that are excellent on tap pool darts back patio for smoking drinking catch up with friends good camaraderie live bands on the weekend excellent music and people you want to just walk in and Shout the word Norm Carrie, cheers where everybody knows your name. My son works for Mikel Mays on the island we hit this place tonight for the first time and we'll be back it's pretty cool. Come check it out it got heavy metal alternative it's pretty good folks in there. Not to mention the drink specials. Craft beers out of this world....
