La Jaivita #1 — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

We ate here for a 2nd time because we liked the food but after the cashier charged us tip without even asking we wont ever go there again. We left a cash tip on the table and we would have gladly given a 15% gratuity on top of that but the cashier took it upon herself to add an 18% gratuity(12.50!)! When my husband signs the receipt he signs the one with just the total amount and she hands him the detailed receipt after. We didn't notice the tip charge till the next day (Monday). Well guess what? Mondays they are closed! To me that is planned theft!! I call Tuesday they say the manager isnt there so I left my number. I didnt get a call so I call Wednesday around 4pm and they say manager isnt there to call Thursday between noon and 4pm. At this point I stopped trying because obviously the cashier who may have answered the phone may know what I was calling about. All we wanted was for the manager to train her cashier to give us the 3 tip options instead of her adding it without telling us. The 1st time we paid cash so they were good. And we dont live in Corpus so it's a bummer to not be able to recommend La Jaivita to friends who visit Corpus as well. Very disappointed that this...

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!Service is horrible!!!!!!!! Waitresses are disrespectful and the manager is no better!! I ordered a plate of fried fish only to find it severely undercooked! I showed it to our waitress and asked her to take it back and finish cooking it. She took a couple of minutes and brought back a new filet in the exact same way as the one before. Once we told her that it wasn’t cooked completely again she went off saying that what did we want her to do that it had been done 2 times already! She was asked to take the plate away that we didn’t want it anymore and she walked away from us saying that she didn’t know anything and left the plate and us without a resolution! She didn’t even send us her manager or anything we had to go ask for her manager to tell her what was going on!! EXTREMELY RUDE!!!! No Customer service!!!!!! Plus to add the atmosphere was bad the restaurant was full of smoke making your eyes tear up and it was extremely cold and music was so loud you couldn’t even hear the person next to you!!! Never again will we step foot in this place!!! Save your time and money and don’t go to this place they don’t care about...

La Jaivita #1 (original location) can be found at 3202 Prescott St #4499, Corpus Christi, TX 78415. It is amazing!! The food was so, so good that we dug in and forgot to take pictures. We ordered shrimp ceviche and although it didn't have any type of fresh chile like jalapeño or Serrano diced in, it was really fresh tasting, crisp and light but flavorful. You can tell they know how to make ceviche and have been making it for a very long time. We also ordered a fish filled to try it. We should have ordered a platter because it was fried to perfection and had a buttery feel and/or taste but in a good subtle way. We don't want to imply that it tasted just like butter because you could definitely taste the freshness of the fish fillet. It was really good. We didn't ask what kind of fish; sorry. We also ordered a beef torta. It was so-so. This place specializes in seafood so in our opinion maybe they should totally stick to all seafood.
