Took my mother here for Mother's Day. We ordered the Crab Stuffed Mushroom appetizer, Great Reef Platter, and finally, the Sweet Potato Pecan Pie.
~The hostesses were great, super friendly, and found me at the bar when my table was ready. ~The server was also really nice and checked on us a good amount. Not too much, not too little. ~Crab Stuffed Mushrooms - 9/10 - delicious and perfect consistency. The 1 that came off was that the Crab wasn't super noticeable. It's still a GREAT appetizer choice though, and i highly recommend it.
This is where my disappointment starts. ~Great Reef Platter with Coleslaw and Dirty Rice. - the consistency/dryness/flavor reminded me of when I've poorly made those prepackaged "just add water Tony Chatcheries" premade dirty rice. I'm not a fan of Coleslaw in general, but my mom liked it and said it tasted fresh. The "flounder" we ordered definitely tasted like Tilapia to the both of us. The stuffed crab tasted like prepackaged turkey stuffing, and I didn't notice any crab flavor/meat in it. Neither of us are fans of Fried oysters so I'll leave that off. The stuffed shrimp was alright, good flavor, the regular shrimp was also pretty good, good flavor and cooked properly. ~Sweet Potato Pecan Pie - we ordered this to go so we didn't get the ice-cream on top. I personally wasn't a big fan, I thought it was a bit too sweet, but I'm also not a big "sweets" fan. I'd still recommend trying it because it's a unique flavor I haven't had before. I will say, I didn't notice much of any Pecan flavor, nor was there any on top. Finally, it honestly looked like it was premade/packaged. It didn't have that "made from scratch" look to it.
All in all, it feels like this restaurant can't decide if it wants to he a "fancier" restaurant, or a more budget restaurant. The ambiance/decorations, as well as appetizers felt very high end, and fresh. Plus the waitstaff is great. But then, the main course and desert just fell so short and I do not feel like I got the value I paid for them. The only reason "food" gets 3/5 is because of the Appetizer. If I hadn't ordered that it would've been a 2/5 or 1/5. If I had only ordered the appetizer it...
Read moreI really dislike giving negative reviews and I really wanted to like this place.
They were not busy, but the manager(?) and BOH staff were more interested in what sports were on TV than what was going on in the restaurant.
There was one server taking care of us (table of 3) and 2 other tables (1 table of 4, 1 table of 2) on our side of the restaurant. I ordered a dos equis with a salt rim. The salt had sugar mixed in with it and it was terrible.
As we ordered more drinks, our dirty glasses just sat there and piled up.
My son ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer. The chili sauce that came with it was identical to the jar kind from HEB.
I ordered a salad in addition to my entree and my friend ordered a salad as a side to her entree. Neither one of us got our salads. Mine had to be removed from the ticket, my friend subbed the cauliflower for hers.
The server was apologetic and understanding but seemed inexperienced and overwhelmed.
The food was adequate. My son ordered dessert to take home. He didn't finish it and half of it went to waste.
As we were leaving, a man who had been sitting at the bar was also leaving, with food. The hostess asked him a question and I got the impression that he was a manager. He left the same time we did. He never looked at us, greeted us, helped the staff on the floor or asked how everything was.
I was really upset at the amount of money I spent for the quality of food and service we received. If you zoom in on my picture you can see not only our dirty glasses that sat there and piled up on the table, but what the staff was busy doing at the bar while we were neglected. If I owned this restaurant and this is how my staff treated guests, I'd be so mad. I waited a bit to post this review, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that if this was my restaurant, I'd want to know.
I really hope my experience was just an off night. They've done a lot of work inside and it's truly a beautiful space. I wish them...
Read moreI would like to first start off by saying Thank You Jesus for leading my friend (co-worker) and I to this lovely establishment. We were trying to figure out what we were going to eat, while we were on our hour lunch break. My friend and I looked up and I believe we saw it at the same time. The establishment is very clean and has a nice roomy open floor plan so you don’t feel squeezed in. The overall decor and ambience is relaxing. Now, let’s get to the Main topic. The Food. My choice on the menu today was the white fish and 2 shrimp of which you can have broiled or fried. I chose fried with a side of seasonal veggies which is a mix of squash and zucchini with a little broccoli and onions sautéed. My goodness the flavor was nothing short of amazing. The tartar sauce was so good as well. I must say I haven’t had tartar sauce that tasted this good since I don’t know when. You can tell it was a special recipe. Next up… loaded baked potato. That was delicious. Everything was hot, fresh and very tasty. The portion sizes are very generous. The price is reasonable for seafood especially the lunch portion and given the portion size. I will say this last thing. We had 45 minutes to be back to work. Our food was out in a decent amount of time to where we could still sit and eat and make it back to work on time. Everything was so very good and I was so impressed I had to leave this review and I’m going to tell my friends and family. Most of all I will be Returning to try Something else on the Menu. I pray you all enjoyed this review. I know it’s lengthy but I didn’t want to leave out a thing. P. S. We would’ve taken pictures if there were any leftovers… lol .. Go see for yourselves you won’t be...
