Its hard to come by a fine dining restaurant in this area, so they definitely fill a niche. I dont eat seafood, so much of the menu was lost on me. I took a friend for her 50th birthday because she saw french onion soup and is obsessed....she wished they had put bread with it, but liked it well enough. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with bleu cheese and we liked them! It's a really nice subtle mix of flavors-I would recommend giving them a try. I ordered the wedge salad and liked it, its very filling. I also ordered the grape leaves (i don't see them on menus very often) they were really good! They were fresh and warm! We both ordered the expresso martini, it was very sweet and creamy-not a traditional expresso martini, it was basically on overpriced Mudslide, but we needed some caffeine. The French martini sounded good, but we didn't try it. Good things to note* the owner is greek, so the greek salad is traditional (more of a cucumber salad sans lettuce). The window table is such an awesome little datenight spot or girls cocktails, but it's the smallest table so if you are ordering a meal, find a different table.
Overall, I would say that if you want the fine dining vibe or you want to do a charcuterie with a group this would be a good small town spot. The interior design missed the mark a little for me, it felt a little hodgepodge and dollarstore, without much focal point. The waitstaff left a little to be desired. When I go to a fine dining restaurant I know im going to overpay for the food-its generally the service that makes the experience, I prefer a more professional staff. The host was slow to greet us and he asked if we had a reservation, I looked around at a nearly empty restaurant and was instantly annoyed. The area was bustling due to corsicana Derrick days going on-lots of outdoor food vendors, music, dancing. Ill assume thats why it was so empty on a Friday night. Our waitress was extremely attentive but also overshared to an unprofessional level. I got the gossip on customers and regulars in a small town. They still advertise chef Andres on their website, but he isn't...
Read moreI am a veterinarian that now owns 4 clinics that lives north of Houston and have been taking my employees on a trip for the past 12 years. There was a miscommunication with the reservation that we made for 30 where they heard 3 but that did not bother this place they took us in like family. The staff not only took care of us like a 5 star restaurant but laughed with us enjoying the evening and yes last year we went to such a 5 star restaurant is New Braunsfels and I would pick Across the Street in Coriscana any day of the week. The owner was very gracious and made sure we were taken care of and at the end of the night when we where done eating he brought in his pets to show his love of animals. What a great bonding experience. But back to the experience where the food was amazing, I do not remember a time when my employees were so satisfied with there food and the service. Traveling through the area I will not even try another place because of the hospitality they showed to us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Zach...
Read moreI want to love it and may have to try on a different night. Very beautiful downtown area!!
Very sweet ladies at the bar this evening that were very friendly and made us feel more at ease.
Burnt ends were not burned, more like a really good brisket and a very small portion for $18. Our salads didn't make it out until a couple minutes before the entrees, I think they were missed but they were good. The vertical pear was fun! I ordered crab cakes with the potato gratin dauphinoise. I've never this specific potato gratin and I'm not sure of regular servings temps for it. It tasted great but it was cold.. like room temp at best temp. I then found a piece of plastic in my crab cake. The lobster risotto was outstanding with big chunks of lobster. Chicken picatta had just the right amount of capers, and the pork schnitzel was awesome! Desserts were standard. Cheesecake was a small slice and the chocolate pie could have been store bought but the curls saved...
