My fiance and foodie partner and I had the pleasure of visiting Sorrells restaurant approximately two years ago during a trip to Amish country. Recently, we found ourselves passing through the area again in the spring of 2023 and noticed a car show taking place. Although we didn't stay for the event, it piqued our interest, and we decided to return to Sorrells for a meal on June 23, 2023.
On this visit, we decided to try some different dishes and opted not to have the liver and onions. My fiance, Michele, chose the fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised. The fish was perfectly seasoned, and the accompanying fries were outstanding, despite the batter coming off. She also ordered the green beans, which turned out to be unlike any she had tasted before, even after having sampled green beans from Maine to Miami and westward to Arizona.
As for me, I'm generally not a fan of gravy, especially when it comes to dipping fries in it. However, the gravy at Sorrells was incredibly inviting and delicious. I couldn't resist dipping my fries into it, and it turned out to be a delightful combination. Her meal was accompanied by a lite beer from Miller, and it complemented the fish perfectly.
I decided to play it safe and ordered the "loaded" Reuben sandwich, which lived up to its name. The sandwich was well-prepared and packed with flavor. To distract myself from what I expected to be an overwhelming amount of sauerkraut, I added onions, but to my surprise, the sauerkraut was mild, and the sauce was light and delicious. The portion size was generous, and I ended up eating only half of it.
To start off the meal, we ordered the appetizer of fried pickles, and they were simply excellent. The pickles had a perfectly crispy exterior while retaining their skin, and they were hot and crunchy. We also ordered the mushrooms as a side, and they were so mouth-watering that they could have easily accompanied a steak. I started with an Michelob-ultra anmd for the first time tried a Modelo from the tap. It was as good as the beers I prefer.
However, the biggest surprise of the meal came from our server, Adrian. When I ordered the sweet potato fries, she asked if I wanted them with caramel. I was taken aback by the suggestion but decided to give it a try. And boy, was I blown away! The combination of sweet potato fries with caramel was absolutely amazing. The taste was so incredible that I had to stop eating them together- simply , decadent..
Overall, our experience at Sorrells was fantastic. The food was delicious, and the service provided by Adrian was outstanding. We had a great time enjoying our meal and were pleasantly surprised by the unique twists on familiar dishes. If you find yourself in Coshocton, Ohio, Sorrells is definitely worth a visit for a great meal and fun dining experience. Great service, Adrian, and great direction to get the Labatte Blue...at Docks near the river on exit 101A...
Read moreMet family here on Thursday, October 9th around 11:15 am for lunch. My stepmom and I had eaten lunch here a couple of years ago and the food and service were impeccable! This time, what a disappointment. One person ordered the Pretzel Bites, another the hamburger deal, another the Country Fried Steak dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, myself, the Liver and Onions dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy. When we were here a couple of years ago, everything was amazing. Not this time. The worst part was the fact that there were 2 tables occupied when we went in and seated ourselves. The Country Fried Steak dinner and my Liver and Onions dinner were both barely lukewarm. The muscle fibers and/or connecting tissues in the liver were so tough, it was hard to eat. We did not complain, we ate it, but were not happy with it. I ordered a Dr Pepper and it was about 1 1/2" from the top of the glass. I asked the waitress for a refill, but she cleaned up the dishes from the table and took our payments and never brought a refill. I even left a tip, but was not happy about that. The restaurant was no where near full during the whole time we were there. There were not more than 6-8 tables. No reason for our food to be lukewarm, no reason for the waitress to not get me a refill. Sadly enough, we were home for Alabama and I was looking forward to another great meal at Sorrell's but we will not be going there again. Finally, another lady in our party brought it to the waitress's attention that she never brought my refill and asked her if I could get a to go cup. She did not seem impressed with that either. Had I not tipped her, I could understand her not wanting to but we were polite customers, did not complain......unfortunately. So, this is MY review from MY experience. Take it as you want, but as far as our family goes, we will take our business elsewhere. Hating to complain, but it is what it...
Read moreHow to start. It was a Thursday night, the 18th of October. I realize that the place has not been open long. .... The beer was cold, and the waitress was working her butt off . Unfortunately, instead of making sure food was coming out of the kitchen in a timely manner, the owner (Gary) was visiting in the dining room. He seems like a very nice guy BUT it took over an hour for us to get our apps, Bang Bang Chicken (it was hot and good) and the pretzel bites ( warm, 7 of them and the beer cheese was bland and watery) to us. In that time we were on our 3rd beer. We were going to order a burger and sub but after our second beer with no food, we realized that we did not have enough time to wait to eat. If they are going to make it, they have to turn tables. I have been in the restaurant game for over 30 years. I hope they get better because I believe they have a good idea, but Gary needs to stay on task and make sure the food comes out of the kitchen in a timely manner. THE ONLY WAY for that size dinning room to make money is to make sure they turn the tables while putting out a good product. I believe that are on the right track far as food goes but they really really need to improve the output from the kitchen. Gary, don't bus the tables, seat people, and mingle until the food quantity is brought up. The quality is there for the most part. You are on the...
