Cottage Grove definitely needs more Asian restaurants, especially with the growing population/ new housing. So, we were delighted to try Vang'z Kitchen today. It has Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese foods. There are beautiful artificial cherry blossom trees as you walk in. You can dine in or do take-out. You pay at a kiosk (similar to McDonald's kiosk). I got the sesame chicken and cream cheese wontons. The sesame chicken was above average because they use large pieces of chicken, whereas a lot of other restaurants give small pieces of chicken, and too much batter. It didn't give you an option as to how spicy you'd like it, but there was srirracha sauce (and other sauces) at each table. I wish they were a little more generous with the rice and the broccoli-- you only get one piece. The cream cheese wontons were good/ average and I wish it came with a bit more sweet & sour sauce, but they will give you more if you ask for it. My friend got a shrimp with noodles dish, and it looked good, too. I was hoping to get chicken pho, but currently I believe they only offer beef, shrip, and vegetarian. There were no desserts on the menu. An employee there (who might have been the owner or manager) said they want to keep the menu simple for now, as they just opened, and they are receptive to expanding the menu in time. Down the road, besides the chicken pho, I am also hoping they offer chicken satay, red curry, and Thai tea. The restaurant and bathrooms were nice and clean. The server was very nice and brought the food on a cart with wheels. I wish more restaurants would do this to make it easier on the servers. We had a great time and I wish this business lots of success! Thank you for being in...
Read moreAs a hmong person, I will give an unbiased review. As someone who lives near the cottage grove area, it's very nice that we finally have a hmong restaurant near us. Me and my family got takeout yesterday, we got an order of cream cheese wontons, 1 lb of pork belly, a large purple sticky rice, orange chicken, a chicken fried rice, and a side of their chili sauce. Cheese wontons were really good, I'd definitely get these again, 5/5. I like my pork belly on the more crispy side, Vangz Kitchen wasn't as crispy, but very very juicy. The container it came in had a lot of grease, and the crispy ends were a little rubbery and very chewy. I'm not sure if I'd get the pork belly again, 3/5. The purple sticky rice was our favorite, my kids couldn't stop eating it, 5/5. The orange chicken was also super good, big nice pieces of chicken and the sauce tasted really good, not like your generic orange chicken flavor you get from other places, 4/5. The chicken fried rice was probably our least favorite item we ordered, was a little bland but it had a decent amount of chicken in it, 2/5. Finally the chili sauce, I thought it was delicious. I like mine a little bit more spicy, but it was the right amount of citrus and fish sauce that intrigued you to eat more and more, 4/5. In all, the food tasted fresh and homemade. I highly recommend people to come here and try the food themselves, I will definitely be coming to Vangz Kitchen again to try other menu items. Congrats on...
Read moreCame in here with a group of friends the other day hoping to try a new place that lots of my other friends said to try it out. Believing in the words of my friends, we ordered the pho, beef laab, pork belly, and chicken wings. Service was okay with nice greetings and friendly workers, but they kept fumbling the service part in making sure i had the proper utensils and napkins. However, the food was the issue. The pho itself was a nightmare ordering as it was trying to eat it. The ordering process was misleading with pricings and makes you think that if you did not pay attention, you would only be ordering the vegetarian pho. The broth literally tasted like water with no flavoring at all. Plus, the meats inside were not as described on their machine and photos. Next up is the beef laab, pork belly, and chicken wings. Let's just say it was not made fresh at all being stale and was stored in the refrigerator for probably a day or 2. Not even warm up, I may add, so literally, the food was cold and flavorless, like eating leftover food. Now you may ask, why didn't I return the food and get new ones... well, simple, my friend's wife's uncle is the Owner. I got to show support even though their food needs lots of work, especially in the seasoning and...
