We were on a search for macaroons as my daughter has been wanting to try them for the first time, me too!! It was a mid Saturday evening and we were in Council Bluffs for a youth basketball tourney, coming from over near Kearney,NE, and I didn't think any bakery would be open this late on Saturday, but my daughter googled it anyway and sure enough there was the Sugar Makery, open til 8 pm. It was 7ish or so at the time and 14 minutes later we arrive at its location tucked next to the bluffs off Valley View Drive. Stepped into a fun energetic candy/sweet treat store and straight away saw the macaroons-homemade,many flavors...we got strawberry, mexican hot chocolate, fruity pebbles, and root beer float. Husband was with and his eye was on the ice cream....we all got ice cream (daughter and husband added edible cookie dough to theirs as well: mine was in a homemade waffle cone).. and yah the ice cream is homemade too....so many offerings-candy, sweets, popcorn, and more but not enough time to add it to this review, but we also pick up some freeze dried airhead (from their assortment of freeze dried candy items) as well as a few of their bulk bin chocolates--maple and vanilla creams. We have only tried the macaroons and the freeze dried airheads aside from the ice cream and all were so so delicious!! This on top of the fact the service and assistance from the 3-4 separate employees who waited on us was so friendly and courteous answering all our questions, even though they were all probably going to be finishing up their shifts in the next half hour or so upon closing. A must stop friendly fun place for anyone traveling through or visiting western Iowa, as our research shows there are a couple more just a bit further south!! I only wish we knew of this...
Read moreI bought a second Pina colada cake here today. I took it home and cut a peice right away to take to a friend. it was frozen. So hard ai couldn't cut through it with a butter knife, I had to heat a butcher knife to cut it. I had gotten one previously and loved the white light cake with pineapple between the layers and coconut on the outside. They changed the cake adding pineapple to the cake this time without asking me, which made the cake wet like the worst kind of cake pop. it was wet gooey cake. The coconut in between the layers and on the outside was over toasted and beyond chewy. This was was beyond a disappointment and after just a few bites we all threw away our pieces and throwing out the cake. My cake was $70. when I called and complained, they call one of thenstore owners and the one who made my cake who admitted it was not made the same way, she felt like it needed more pineapple and thus added it to the cake making it much wetter. she never asked me about this change, which as the customer who requested this cake because I had it before, you should stick to what I wanted. all they are willing to offer is half the cost of the cake $35 as store credit or refund. Thats fine. Inwill take refund and not come back. I have two birthdays later this month and one next month and I won't be buying anything else here again. poor customer service. Not giving the customer what they ask for and changing your cake to suit you and not me is not good customer service.
Update the other owner called and made it right offering me a full refund. She was sorry that the cake...

They have a great selection of ice cream and serve a range of ice cream desserts, including sundaes, shakes, and cones. The fact that they offered a great selection of sodas for sale also pleased me. I have not seen some soda flavours since I was a child, such as Moxie!
See what Sugar Makery has to offer; it is a really entertaining place, and the best part is that you can snap a photo with a...
