This place is a MUST TRY!! EVERYTHING we had was DELICIOUS!! We got the Chicha morada. Im usually not too crazy about it but this one was so refreshing and tasty. It reminded me of the chicha morada I had in Lima, Peru.
The ceviche mixto was fresh and it had the right amount of spice. The tallarines verdes with steak was a HIT!!! This is one of our favorite Peruvian dishes, so we are very picky. It did not disappoint!!! My 11 month old, my 4 year old, and my 15 year old LOVED it! The steak was tender and flavorful. The salmon al ajillo was very flavorful. We also ordered the lunch special. I got a chicken soup and the grilled chicken with rice and fried plantain. It was truly a very generous portion. I had to take some soup home. The soup tasted like one of those soups your grandma makes you have a cold. If you know, YOU KNOW! The grilled chicken tasted like it was made on the grill. It was juicy, tender, and smoky. My 4 year old practically ate all of it. For dessert we got the tiramisu and the arroz con leche. The tiramisu was yummy. The arroz con leche made me have a little foodgasm!!! I love dessert, this one was definitely a great treat! We will definitely return to this...
Read morePerfect time last Saturday night at Mateo’s in Cranford! The ceviche was super fresh and the octopus appetizer was outstanding. Everything was freshly made, including a delicious green sauce they served with Crispy Peruvian corn as soon as we arrived. This was our second visit in two weeks but there were so many incredible dishes coming out of the kitchen that we need to come back and try. The owners Luis and Luisa were so sweet and the staff were all so helpful — you can tell they care. The portions were large and the prices were quite reasonable. The music and vibe were great and it was good to see them so busy with many returning customers. Great addition to Cranford, we will definitely be...
Read moreThis is one of the best meals we’ve had this year! Mateo’s has a mix of Peruvian and Colombian specialties, including ceviche and Peruvian Japanese food, prepared by a chef that studied in Peru, as well as Colombian specialities.
They give healthy portions with fresh ingredients and lots of meat! Everyone at the restaurant is really friendly. We went home full and with another meal’s worth of leftovers and tried a few dishes that we’d never had before.
It’s really good, better than similar places we’ve been in Manhattan, it’s worth a trip to Cranford just to...
