Edit 01/2023 May hace dropped a star. However, my Eddy Mushroom pizza was order to prection. Again, their best offering. The other pie this evening was callef the "Gold Digger". I asked the staff what was a favorite. This one shined at $18. The pie itself w/toppings looked amazing. However, they way over did with the finishing sauce. A combo of mustard/barbucue that overpowered everything offered. This pie would be 3/5 barely. The pizza crust was cooked perfectly though. A bummer for a big fan here. Will keep the 5 star for now.
Edit 12/2022 5 stars continue... After eating pizza at this establishment for couple years now, I have my top choices for newcomers. Being a hard-core meat lover it's to say that Bettola's Eddy Mushroom pizza is by far the best on the menu. Bizarrely well balanced with nothing overpowering. It's perfection. For those that need a baseline always order the Margarita pie(not a cheese pizza). These two will always be winners.
Don't get me wrong, the meat offerings are good, still a major fan for the San G., however, the best pizza here is hands down the Eddy M.
Edit 5/8/2021 4 to 5 stars. Wow! Very impressed Bettola team. Pizza dough is proofed(aged) to protection. Robust flavor, fluffy, flaky, and a crisp crust. Kudos. Ordered their two signatures. Can't and won't go wrong with the Eddie Mushroom pie. Pair that with my favorite from before, the San Gennaro. These two pies will offer a full flavor profile and showcase the impressive quality Bettola has to offer. Congrats Bettola to winning me over, A+.
From 2020.. Very good pizza, not quite the best. Wings not great for $11. Ate here for the 1st time a few days ago after a recommendation. Let's go. Kinda long read.
Wings: expected a better flavor for the cost, dip was a neat Italian gorgonzola mix. Good try. Not a $11 wing dish 3/5
Pizza: The crust was okay, good texture in part of that beautiful imported oven I saw. Though lacking a little bit in flavor. I don't think they proofed it enough, fermentation was off. I'm not sure what flour they are using, it seemed liked a Italian mix. The dough flavor just didn't pop. 4/5
Pizza#1. San Gennaro: Wow! Superb flavor. Great job in finding this amazing combination. Kudos. A blast of savory, sweet, and spicy in the most perfect configuration. The quality of ingredients is impressive. Top 3 pies of the year for me. I will order this again. 5/5 A+
Pizza#2. Luca Brasi: I had really high hopes for this one. Tasted good and looked beautiful, don't get me wrong. However, the excessive saltiness of the meats overpowered the flavors in the cheese, sauce, and dough. Again, on their own, each meat topping is top shelf. This one didn't balance well. IMHO. 3.5/5.
I will be returning to this establishment for pizza. I'll let you all know if thier dough improves. Stay safe everyone.
Edit#1. Oh yeah, that shredded celery has no purpose atop wings. I think most would agree regular celery that can be dipped into your tasty gorgonzola sauce would be 100% better....
Read moreI stopped by Bettola yesterday afternoon for a quick snack and a drink. I really wanted to like this place and they've been on my list of places to try for quite some time.
While seated at the bar, I watched the bartender pull out a small, filthy fish tank from near the register. She mentioned the fish's name was "Stephanie" and casually remarked that the tank was "looking pretty rough." What happened next was truly shocking. I've never seen anything like it.
She went into the kitchen, grabbed a stainless steel strainer, and dumped the entire contents of the aquarium into it. She rinsed the rocks, media and decorations in the strainer. She also placed the empty aquarium directly into the same dishwasher used for customer glassware. After that, she wiped up the spilled dirty aquarium water with a rag and then used that same rag to wipe down the rest of the area behind bar. Not once did I see her using cleaning spray or dispose of the rag she used. She then returned the strainer to the kitchen. I felt compelled to document this because it was such a shocking/bizarre occurrence that would otherwise be VERY hard to believe.
I brought this to the manager, Ashley’s attention. I made it clear that I wasn't trying to start problems but that it's something that really needs to be addressed before somebody gets sick. After all, using a strainer that’s used for customers food shouldn’t be getting used for pets… Rather than taking my concern seriously, she responded with a smug attitude and claimed that the health department had approved of it last week. She insisted the dishwasher would "sanitize everything," so it was “not a problem.”
Because of what I witnessed and how poorly management handled it, I cashed out and left. I initially intended on ordering food to go for my husband and I but at that point, I didn't want to take any risks.
If this is how they handle cleanliness and food safety out in the open, I can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes. I would strongly think twice before dining here. Safety precautions exist for a reason, and they are not something to take lightly. People can get seriously ill, and it is incredibly disappointing to see them dismiss such concerns so easily.
This place has potential but what I saw today and how poorly the situation was handled is enough to make me never...
Read moreI'm new to the area and was looking for a place to go and I've certainly found one in this gem. I went multiple times over the past weekend (Aug 15th-17th) because it was that good. Unfortunately, there were some other patrons there at the same time that posted some reviews that didn't tell the whole story. One of the reviews was from someone who said they were in from NY and I remember that because he shouted it after leaving his 6 year old son in a booth, to order for the family mind you, while he disappeared and his wife wasn't even in the building. His review called the woman, who approached him while he was basically yelling at the pizza crew to serve him, rude and a racist. She did not once say anything like that. He expected everyone to see a child sitting in a booth behind a high wall and just know what was going on. Let's not forget the sign that said please wait to be seated....When she then attempted to sit them he took his child and stormed out. I was happy to see him go because he definitely ruined the mood for a little while. On Sunday, I was sitting at one of the tables and could overhear two women sitting at the bar talking to the bartender and how they felt bad for her being alone and short staffed then later posted a crummy review. Yes they were short staffed and the bartender was handling the ENTIRE restaurant. Outside of the kitchen staff, I think I saw 3 people dealing with everyone that came in to the place. Bartender covering everyone staying, one person covering what I'm guessing was take out/pickup, and one bussing the tables. I worked in the service industry when I was younger and you can't help when people call out and the other workers have to pick up the slack especially when it was as busy as it was. This place was awesome, the staff did amazing, and the food was incredible. Sometimes peoples dispensation for themselves, situational awareness, or just plainly don't care enough to think doesn't tell the whole story. I'll be back multiple times to enjoy the hell out...
