My official score is 4.5/5 stars. Came here with my girlfriend for a late valentines day dinner date. We ordered smoothies and sushi and some fried ice cream for dessert. Upon entering the building, I was surprised to see how large the seating area was. On a tuesday night, it was nice and quiet, and we had the full attention of the staff. The interior design was quite nice, with very appealing baby blue walls and lots of plants and flowers. The music was a great mix of merengue, batchata, and polynesian-style tunes from the late 1900s. The font and singage of the menus were styled well and easy to read. The seating area was a little echo-ey but that's not a big deal. The real deal was the food. I ordered a cilantro-lime salmon roll with some seafood salad in the middle. The roll itself was put together well and held up throughout the meal. The flavor was really interesting; kind of reminded me of ceviche. My one complaint about the sushi rolls we ordered was that they were not cut evenly at all. This isn't a big deal, I'm certainly no snob about it, but some of the pieces were so large they were impossible to eat, and others were really skinny and hard to handle with chop sticks. I also ordered a banana smoothie which was not very sweet, but tasted natural, and the ice was a great texture, not too coarse. The price point was one of my favorite parts about this restaurant. The sushi was very affordable, especially given today's economy and complex supply chains. All in all we spent about 75 bucks for 3 sushi rolls, 2 specialty drinks, and dessert. I meant to ask if they were BYOB while I was there, but this would be an awesome place to share a bottle of wine and spend time with friends. The service was very good, if not a little overbearing, but I'm not complaining. We had a great conversation with the hostess/waitress. I could see it being very busy for her if there's more than like 2 parties at a time. I hope this place can stick around because at least from the sushi we got, it was a delicious fusion of cuisines that caught my attention as soon as I heard about it. We will certainly be back to try to the...
Read moreI ate there almost more than a week ago now, and my mouth still waters when i think of the phenomenal food I had there. One of the greatest dining experiences I've had, I want to give particular focus on their brilliant house hot sauce. It's smokey, full bodied, with just enough heat to open up the pallet, worked brilliantly with their chicken tacos (which by themselves were already a step above expectations) but the sauce combined added a lovely complexity that I still think about to this day. I also HAVE to recommend the seared salmon nagiri, truly spectacular. Lastly, I'd like to thank the chef for letting me try something he was testing that I wish i could remember the name of, hopefully they've added it by now because that too was a highlight. All in all, please give this restaurant a chance, it's a newcomer that truly deserves to be a staple spot for the community. I've already recommended it to whoever will listen, and I hope when you get the chance to taste their food, that you will...
Read moreMy new favorite restaurant in town! Holy smokes does Chicano Sushi give flavor combinations I haven’t experienced anywhere else. Highly recommend their Cranston Role, and their Pollo Al Pastor Combo plate. To be honest, you can’t go wrong with your order. I’ve been here a few times now since it has opened and I’ve had incredible service every time. I can’t recommend it enough! We have ordered multiple roles and a plate each time which means we’re paying roughly 30 a person, and overall I’d say the prices are super reasonable for Sushi and Mexican food.
Edit: Update several months later and Chicano’s has become a consistent go to and we have never had an experience unworthy of 5 stars. Tried the anchor roll which is a new special and I highly highly...
