Flavors Bakery & Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Cullman

Cullman is sort of known for baked goods so I wanted to stop and get a few pastries before we headed home. This place had good reviews and was next door to a coffee shop, so double win!

Very cute little bakery inside. Nice places to sit, cute old timey knickknacks and baking relics -- my mom got a huge kick out of the old KitchenAid mixers. Even though it was later in the afternoon, they had a decent selection of desserts. A friendly employee greeted us immediately and was helpful with checkout and bagging.

I chose a smaller orange roll based on the recommendation of lots of reviewers, as well as something a bit more unique to me: a sweet potato and pecan muffin. Somewhat unusual combination that sounded super good!

I split my treats with husband later that evening. The orange roll was solid -- the soft and yeasty roll was the best part -- though for me the orange glaze was a little too sweet. That's how I usually feel about orange rolls though so if you really love them you'll probably like this one! The muffin remained remarkably moist and the pecans were so nice and toasty on top. It was very subtly sweet and had lots of nice spices. Would love to try more muffins from here!

Flavors bakery has cupcakes that I heard about for weeks before I finally gave in to temptation. WOW! The cupcake is hard to describe. It's so moist but, not dense and heavy. It's fluffy and delicious. TRY RED VELVET! The reason I didn't give flavors a 5 is simply, they don't have cupcakes available...ever. They are order only and orders start with 6. Not a variety of 6. 6 of the same kind due to wasted ingredients. So basically I order cupcakes for a party and I want a dozen. 6 red velvet and 6 of another. It's kind of a bummer. I can't go in and get a couple of personal cc and if I order 6 they are all one flavor. I also felt like the service from the ladies was rude with answers to my cupcake questions. Cullman is so very blessed to have Flavors Bakery! I've used and loved another bakery in town. However our need for Gluten Free cupcakes forced us to search for another option. We called Flavors to inquire and they were very knowledgeable about GF options as well as lead times for this specialty option. We discussed the party theme and they were quick to suggest a chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. SOLD!

When I walked in to pick up my order there were happy diners enjoying pastry over coffee. The bakery is adorable and has a great vibe similar to one I loved for years in Birmingham. Their baked goods look like a magazine cover (I pinched myself twice!) Why did it take me so long to check them out? My cupcake order was perfection and packaged well for travel to Tuscaloosa.
