Nostalgia, Outdoor Grill is a great spot to take the parents, the girlfriend, the kids, or on a solo mission. It sits at an intersection of Culver City that was clearly designed by a nutcase city planner. Roads are coming and going in all directions. The noisy carwash just below adds to the chaos, yet Outdoor Grill survives the mayhem. The smell of BBQ satiates your taste buds once you hit the parking lot, and after ordering your food, making your way to the upstairs deck overlooking the carwash, adds to anticipation. The wait is just long enough to appreciate when you hear your name on the speaker to pick up your feast. The tri-tip and pork sandwiches are the meats to pick. The chicken tastes the same today as it did 35 years ago, dry and stringy, but fear not, the house made BBQ is the key to unlocking the flavor. Get extra BBQ sauce, hell buy a bottle. The Mac and Cheese hits, and the fries and baked beans also dont disappoint. To go orders also work on the way to...
Read moreI try to be as honest and impartial with my reviews and I never have an ax to grind. That being said, I was not overwhelmed by this restaurant. The tri tip was dry, and lacked flavor. The cornbread wqs way too dry. The mac and cheese was dry and flavorless. The coleslaw didn't really have much flavor either. The pork ribs had a wonderful flavor. Personally i wish they had a bit more meat, but flavor wise, they hit the spot. One thing I did find to be outstanding was their sauce. Generally I don't care for a sweet sauce, but this sauce was sweet without the thick molasses consistency. It was a rather liquidy sauce with a nice vinegar contrast to the sweetness. To me it was a perfect balance. If there had been a bottle of sauce by me I might have drank it all down ny itself. At any rate, Outdoor Grill isn't terrible but I think a few tweaks here and there would make I worthy od a much...
Read moreLegit BBQ here. First start d coming here in late 90s had their beef ribs and was hooked! Honestly there isn't any good BBQ in LA (from Santa Maria to South LA) but this place is as good as it'll get. Real Santa Maria style Cali grill and a good Texas-Style BBQ sauce. Catfish, spare ribs are good too. The burger, while probs the least interesting option, basic and very good, but for some reason they don't put BBQ sauce into and I rec that you ask for just a bit of you order it. Sides are good but fries can be better. Price point also makes this place best cuz you can spend twice the ca$h up the street on the west side for half the flavor. Fact that the shack is in a car wash and thatvthe grill is half the size of the place adds to the BBQ feels. If you're in LA and want BBQ you have few options, and so far this is what is top...
