This place is incredible! I just wish I had more time. I discovered this magical spot on my way to LAX. The restaurant was enchanting, so I had to go in to see the fish market. The manager (I think) couldn't have been more fantastic. While I was trying to figure out what I could bring back to the East coast, I had some incredible oysters (PEI and NZ) and NZ salmon (sashimi). The quality of the fish and the plating was as gorgeous as a recent Michelin dinner. I got the story of the fish (owner has exclusive access/ rights to NZ fish), and it just arrived the day before. The prices (and selection) were phenomenal. If I could've taken the store with me, I would have. (Sadly, TSA absconded with my purchases despite the care taken to delicately pack.) This will be my very first stop next time I come to LA. (Note- this was nowhere on my way, but the surprise highlight of my trip.) What an amazing place - both the food and the staff / owner. HIGHLY recommend. Thank you!!

If you live in the LA area you have to visit this place. Vibes are very low-key. Prices are great and quality of seafood is excellent. I am a ceviche fanatic and this has got to be the best ceviche i had - “pacific ceviche” it has a mild coconut flavor and small bits of mango but refreshingly more citrus. It’s the perfect lunch on a hot day. The oysters on half a shell were pretty good (I have to say I’ve had better mignonette, there’s was very standard red wine mignonette), and the poke was great ! Good sake options too and laid back seating. No crazy charges for service since it’s a “take a number and we’ll bring the food out to you” style. If you love refreshing seafood it’s a must !

Fresh enough seafood and delicious food. My husband really liked his fish and chips. I got the special and the fish came out really soft and yummy. The oyster was okay, it felt it wasn't super fresh, didn't have the "oystery" flavor I associate it as. I'm also not sure about the staff and cleaniness....I noticed when they were preparing my drink, they dropped the lobster claw on the ground and waitress got nervous and the other waitresses went to her and then the whole group got weird and went to the cook and I guess (and hope) cleaned the claw and put it back in my drink. I pretended not to notice it and I'm glad I didn't get sick from that. Anyways, it was a decent place.

Great food. We were in a party of 4:and everything we ordered was delicious! The fried whole snapper with potatoes & edamame (suggested for 2) was fabulous and could have fed 3!!!!

Indoor ambiance? Well there is no ambiance inside but outside seating in a nice day or night could be really nice. There is however a seafood case/display since it is also a small seafood market in addition to a cafe

Service was spotty & slow (but were not in a rush) had to ask for napkins, plates...but our waitperson was still friendly....(With a majority of people sitting outside, I assume the rest of our waitpersons's customers were outside. We sat inside since my Mom is always cold)

Food was reasonablely priced especially since the seafood was very fresh. My sister who had been there before said the oysters are good there too.

Unfortunately, nothing in the menu for vegans....but there were salads if you are vegetarian. (There are many vegan & vegan-friendly restaurants in the area...so if that's what you want, look elsewhere)

Final word....go here if you are looking for a very casual inexpensive but very fresh & very flavorful seafood dishes.

*Try the whole snapper fried, kiwi (clam) chowder, King salmon. The fish & chips also good.

Parking can be challenging as it is street parking at meters on Washington

You will definitely want to sit outside on a nice...

My boyfriend and I tried this place, finally, for the first time. I'm a huge fan of raw oysters, but I'm not good at remembering the names of the ones that I like -- I know I prefer them big, and not very briny. But I'll eat them all -- tiny, briny, bring them on!

The oysters on the half-shell at this place were by far the most beautifully-shucked oysters I've ever seen. They were completely intact and looked flawless in their shells. I had no idea that they could even look that good, so perfect. More importantly, though, they were delicious! As fresh as could be, both the big, not-briny ones and the smaller, more briny ones were spectacular in quality and freshness. They also have fun oyster shots -- like Martini-style, Bloody-Mary style, etc. Those are delightful as well, but nothing beats having beautiful, fresh oysters on the half-shell. Worth every dollar they charge.

We had other food as well -- I had king crab legs, and my boyfriend had the lobster linguini in cream sauce. We both walked away happy and full. We'll definitely be visiting them again! I can't get the oysters out of my mind, and it was over a week ago that...

Everyone of our party enjoyed the food. We also took advantage of the happy hour oyster special, which required eating outside in the patio or at the bar ($2 raw oysters - chef's selection). We chose to eat outside on the front patio. Staff at Tangaroa were exceptionally accommodating to us, they moved some tables around and even pulled out a propane patio heater and set it up just for us, when a cool breeze started to chill us a little. The food was fresh and flavorful. If I had a complaint, it would have been the fish market like atmosphere inside the dining room, which was nice, but appeared to come along with a fresh fish odor that was slighty strong when we first arrived. As I mentioned, we dined outside on the patio, so there wasn't any fish odor outside, but my wife reported after going inside later in our meal, the odor inside had diminished quite a bit in the dining room, so it might have just been the time we arrived, being so early, perhaps dinner prep work was still in progress. Portions were generous, service was excellent, presentation was good. We would definitely...
