The Boy & The Bear on Washington is one of the most reliable coffee shops in the area. The coffee is consistently excellentâsmooth, balanced, and well-roasted without being overly bitter or acidic. They take their sourcing seriously, focusing on Colombian beans, and it shows in the flavor. Their espresso drinks are precise, and the drip and pour-over options are also strong if youâre looking for something less milky.
The shop itself is clean and minimalist, with a cool, modern vibe. Plenty of seating both inside and out. Itâs a good environment to get work doneâusually not too loud, and the Wi-Fi is dependable. Outlets can be limited during peak hours, but itâs manageable if you plan ahead.
The staff is professional and efficient. They know their stuff, but theyâre not overbearing about it. Service is usually quick, even when itâs busy.
Pastries and small bites are fresh and good quality, though the food options are limited (as expected for a shop focused on coffee). They also participate in food waste reduction apps like Too Good To Go, which is a nice touch if youâre looking for a deal or care about sustainability.
Overall, this is a great neighborhood coffee spotâconsistent, comfortable, and focused on doing a few things really well. Easy...

Parking was relatively easy in one of the side streets, and there was not a wait, even though most of the seats were taken with laptop warriors, working away.
TB&TB does a great pour over. Jake is an incredible, one man army, who was handling the cashier, barista and food duties. He was friendly and knowledgable, confirming they use V60 and ~1:16 ratio of coffee beans (ground) to water.
I asked for something funky, and he recommended the Tiki Punch emerald series as his favorite with notes of Salted Carmel, Lemon Rind and Rose. Since we ordered one of their excellent savory pies, I asked for a shot of sparkling water (that's a sign it's a place that takes their coffee seriously) to cleanse my palate. Another thing that points to a serious coffee afiocionado status was the ground up coffee beans they give you with your coffee tumbler, so you can cleanse your sense of smell and truly take in the aroma of the brew. Let's just say, it was delicious, and I should've taken more time to savor it, but I chugged in all the goodness.
One of the best pour over coffee experiences. If you are in Culver City/ Mar Vista/ Venice, this is a must-try for any coffee...
