I was passing through for a work trip. I have eaten here before. This is an old building and the decor is kinda dated, but I'm there for the food, and some of the best meals I've had are in places that still have the original wallpaper and decorative sconces on the wall. I walked in, looked at the menu, and ordered carryout. I had my eye on a couple of dishes, then asked the server which one I should order (always ask the locals what they eat). He volunteered his favorite choice, which was neither of mine, so I ordered the "Choripollo" -- a mix of chorizo/chicken/cheese with beans and rice, and some tortillas on the side. I followed that up with an extra sides of beans and rice (separate dishes). It cost approximately $25. The food came out in about 15 minutes. When I got back to my hotel, the bag was full and my food was hot. That always amazes me about Mexican restaurants. How is it that refried beans can melt steel after 20 minutes in a foil carryout dish? One of life's mysteries, I suppose. Pleasantly surprised, I found an overloaded bag of chips with an ample supply of salsa alongside my meal. I knew this would be way too much food for one person, and this is coming from a guy who defeated anorexia years ago, i.e., I'm not skinny. Anyway, I gave half my food away to my hotel manager because he's always cool and gives me extra water bottles and quiet rooms for my telework. I divvied out the food, and basically built two big burrito bowls. I just poured everything in, so we had two mounds of chorizo/chicken/cheese/rice/beans/salsa. I returned to my room. I ate my meal. It was tasty AND still too much food. Shortly thereafter, I went into a deep food coma, and woke up 3 hours later in the desk chair in my room. Bottom line: I will continue to visit El Jinete when I...
Read moreEl Jinetes canceled my order through door dash and then continued to deny my orders leaving me waiting for a refund and unable to order from anywhere. I bought a prepaid visa specifically to order off of Doordash because it recently got introduced into my hometown, Cumberland, MD, and now all the funds are pending in refunds. I’ve tried calling and they would hang up on me, or literally say, “This is El Jinetes we are Mexican, sorry can’t understand you.” And then hang up. I’m furious if I’m being honest. Hungry, and mad that I wasted my time, money, & effort to get the card, only to have it become tied up for 5-7 BUSINESS days. I won’t be able to eat today, or until I get paid on Thursday, for that matter, now. Like I said, I tried to get this resolved and was met with the worst customer service, getting hung up on & told they can’t understand me. I will NEVER order from here again. I went inside to speak with a manager was told they wouldn’t help me. On my way out I saw several large bugs by the door and bug/beetle skins that appeared to have been shed laying in the carpets. Seeing that I think I’m glad my order was canceled. Also are known to serve alcohol to...
Read moreI can't give a rating on the food because unfortunately we never made it that far. When first walked in we were welcomed with a bathroom/sewage type smell...we then stood there for about 5 minutes wondering if we should seat ourselves or what, we did see this man eating and looking at us..He was the only one, I assumed he was a diner but after 5 minutes he finally stood up and said so you guys want to eat or what? I was like uh yeah, looking confused at the other parties with me and they were giving the same look back. He looked as though he was disappointed and just pointed over toward the seats and said go ahead find you a seat. Walking back, all the seats were ripped and torn and just looked unmaintained. We couldn't decide where to sit when the owner once again comes out and said do you not want to eat? I looked at everyone, before I could even ask them he goes if you don't want to eat then that's fine with me, so you eating yes or no? I was like I think we will...
