Let me preface my review by saying I've been to Hibachi Japan when it was at a different location on front Street years ago and I've been to this new location semi new whatever a couple times. The food is always really good. My only gripe would be that they seem to be short on chefs quite a lot like I went there 2 years ago and they were short-staffed as far as cooks and they were short-staffed again. So you have to wait a while for them to come to your table and cook your food. So you might be working on soup and salad for a good 30 minutes to an hour, which I think is kind of ridiculous. Especially since there's not really anything else to do there. Or if you have kids with you, they get impatient and there's not really anywhere for them to roam. It's not a kid-friendly environment. Understandable. It's a Hibachi. So yeah food was great young servers but they're also really good. Attentive Kathy orders right checked back brought boxes. I don't like that. Even if you come with a party of five or six you still have to wait for a table sometimes because they want to get as many people at a table as possible. I get it, I just don't like it. It is what it is. I was a Hibachi server so I understand. My only other thing that was negative would be that the plates were all like dirty. They had greasy fingerprints on them. I had to get out wet wipes and clean our plates off because we didn't want to be those weird customers. That said, all our plates were dirty but because it's so dark in there you can't really tell until you hold them under the light and it looked like they were literally like wiped off or rinsed off and then touched with greasy fingers all day kind of gross. Also, our chef was kind of sarcastic which I don't mind sarcasm but my mom's 72 and it kind of felt like he was making fun of her at one point which I didn't like and not in a funny way. Lastly, my only other thing would be when they do the rice and veggies and they split them on all the plates. Literally my husband got like the smallest amount of veggies out of everybody to the point that it was barely like two spoonfuls which was kind of annoying because he got the most expensive plate there. So I gave them overall a good reading because the food was great. The service was great and there's some things they can't help. Like if they're short-staffed you know I'm sure they're trying but the plates need to be clean. There's not really an excuse for that. I worked for as a server for many years at Hibachi as well as many different other places and our first thing was we had to go around and check glasses, silverware and plates at our settings to make sure everything was polished and wiped down and it doesn't seem like they do that. But again, they have a very young staff, so you know maybe they're short-staffed and they're doing the best they can. Overall,...
Read moreSo let me start this off by saying I previously worked here for little over six months, I love the work and money to be made. It was amazing! An almost all of the employees are amazing and good workers and working as a team. However, everytime I walked into the place I got anxiety because one of the mangers and bartenders (which is also manager when other managers are off) are very rude and make it a toxic and negative work place unfortunately. Within the six months I worked there we lost a few good servers because of this reason. This is why they have a high turn over rate because of the same two people unfortunately. I've seen workers get talked down on or made to feel as if they were incompetent for asking questions to make sure they do things right with being new to the place. One time I took two shot glasses back to the bar (which is the only place with sanitary water and scrubbers for the glasses)where only bartenders go behind, an I asked for two clean shot glasses because the ones I took to my table were dirty, the bartender, K, looked at me and said "yea u take them like this, rinse them like this and you have clean shot glasses (as she cleans them in the sanitary water I can't get to) as she sets them on the table an rolls her eyes and continues her conversation with another employee. One day a server was training a new server and she was teaching him about the garnishes that go on the drinks, well he went to ask a question in the middle of this server telling him about the drinks and the manager was walking by an literally said "well if you would just shut up an listen". These same two people act like it's against the law to work together and be a team. It's just sad that the employees that are sticking it out have to go thru this. Unless you are a favorite to the managers, they make work hard for you. No one deserves that. Half the time things don't get cleaned all the way, there are always knats in the drinks (that we get told to pick out the drink an still serve it). This place has great workers and even other great bartenders and chefs. But literally just these two people need to learn how to talk to people and work together. If the main manager would go there and separately talk to everyone. They would hear all about it. The day drinking half of them do there which I was told by this manager that it was fine because they have worked there for 10plus years. I just wish the best for them workers. Going thru that six months there really was the hardest thing ever. Especially when my family came up an the manager had her chest hanging out at the front desk with my stepdaughter there. Do better, the workers deserve it Lindsey...
Read moreMy family has been coming here for 10+ years (even when it was in the other location in the Falls) and we have always had an enjoyable experience. We usually come to the restuarant once or twice a year, to celebrate birthdays. We had not been since last fall, and after yesterday's experience I don't think we will return. First, they were out of all Japanese beers. Kind of strange, but ok. Once seated and we started ordering sushi, we found out they were also out of all spicy sauce (so no spicy tuna or other spicy sushi combos) and they were also out of soy sauce! What kind of hibachi restaurant is out of soy sauce??? After we inquired further, they ended up having gluten free soy sauce, which had a nice taste to it but still....out of soy sauce??? The portion sizes have shrunk dramatically since our last visit. The service was ok---our server was friendly but consistently forgot to bring things we asked for. The service was extremely slow----we arrived at 6:30 p.m. and waited about 40 minutes for a table. This is typical, so not a big deal. Once seated, service was incredibly slow. Sushi was not brought out all together, and was brought out after soup and salads had been brought out. The gentleman making the sushi had long-ish shaggy hair that was not pulled back or put in a hairnet or hat---the sushi counter was visible from our table. He kept flipping his hair all around, which was gross. He was also not waering gloves and I periodically observed him eating while he was making sushi. Yuck. When walking out, I observed a server vaping on the dining floor---she quickly stopped when she saw that I noticed her. Honestly, I did not care as the restaurant was closed at that point, but clearly she knew she was not supposed to be doing it by the way she put her vape behind her back and smiled sheepishly at us. The bathrooms were in disrepair and gross---the soap dispenser was missing from the wall, but the tape (?) to hold it up was still there. The sinks were sdirty and rusty, there was no toilet paper in the stall I was in, and the floor was dirty. They have small lights in the floor and one was coming up out of the floor and was broken. With the lack of available product, the disrepair of the bathrooms, and the overall lack of cleanliness, I wonder if they are going out of business. A shame, as they were always good in the past, but yesgterday's experience wil...
