This is traditional Chinese food. It is not the sodium infested crap that most Americans know as Chinese food. Hence why other reviewers are calling it bland. The sauces are homemade, and I found them full of flavor. The atmosphere is really nice and the prices are very agreeable.
I ordered General Tsos Chicken and I was asked how hot I wanted the sauce on a scale of 1-10. I chose 8 and it turned out perfect. They sprinkle the dish with almonds which added to the overall texture and flavor. This was the best General Tsos sauce Ive ever had. It even mixed well with the vegetables.
I also had their Beef Lo Mein. They cut the meat perfectly, so it was easy to pick up with chopsticks (and forks). The noodles and the meat were prepared with enough sauce so they would not dry out. I hate dry Lo Mein and a lot of places are too cheap to care, so I was impressed. I would definitely order this again.
The best part was that I left this place and did not feel sick from eating too much sodium. The water I ordered was clean and so were the dishes. Its a really nice place. I started the evening looking for some average Chinese food, and wound up finding a new favorite. This place deserves a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered take-out, and my review fits with most Iāve seen: palatable, but not exactly a good meal. Was looking to order a tangy, preferably spicy beef dish, and I ended up receiving what tasted like beef cooked with sliced onions, ketchup, and a touch or Worcestershire sauce. Not exactly a great meal. My wifeās General Tsoās, and she also described it as āmarginal.ā Topping it off, I looked to try their Hot and Sour soup, and again, hardly anything beyond edible. Not gag-inducing, but not really much more than that.
To top it off, if I could make a decorating decision for the restaurant: for the love of breathing clean air, GET RID OF THE WATERFALL. The carpet was noticeably mildew-laden and sticky even just waiting for my take-out meal, and I could see it was similar across the majority of the restaurant. Iām sure the air wasnāt 100% clear of mold spores, and I donāt think Iād want to spend time in there longer than picking up a to-go meal. (Which, on that note, itās personally worth traveling the short distance to Fairlawn to grab House of Hunan or even PF Changās).
Gave 2 stars because food was ready on time and, thankfully, not all that expensive (but I guess you get what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here with my fiance and her brother, I ordered the bourbon chicken and a diet coke. The food took way to long for how few people were dining. And when it finally came it was cold. I had finished my diet coke before my food came out and i sat there the rest of the time with an empty glass despite asking the server for a refill. So on to the food. My bourbon chicken didn't even taste like bourbon chicken. It was disgusting. It was like they took the bourbon sauce and added 5 lbs of sugar. The fried wotons was nasty as well. They were cold and somewhat soggy. My fiance ordered the wonton soup and said it was very bland. We eat Chinese food quite often and sad to say but a Chinese food take out place has much better food then this over priced high end wanna be. And I could understand if they were just having a bad day but I have given this place change after chance to wow me and all 4 times I've eaten here I have been just completely disappointed with the food and the service. I will never eat here again. Chen's Garden on State RoadI'd where it's at. Goodbye forever...
