so i've been here before but this is my second time coming here and I asked the barista for a 12oz iced mocha breve style so using half and half. To preface, I used to work at specialty coffee shops before, What I was asking for, is a thing that you can get.
I dont really like the taste of whole milk with coffee and its not as rich and creamy as i like. I usually get oat milk but because i found that oat milk causes me to get acne breakouts i switched over to getting a smaller latte or flat white with half and half instead.
I didn't really appreciate the fact that the barista on shift (a man in his early 30s with a beard) looked at me like i was crazy, and continued to question my order. I told him i've gotten this before and its like having it breve and he repeated my order very slowly for the 3rd time for confirmation, with a lot of judgement in his tone. But i brushed it off and went to sit down.
I got my drink shortly after from a female barista (she had bangs, glasses and a septum) that said that they couldnt do my drink with half and half and used whole milk instead. She didnt give me much explanation to why she couldnt and instead of just calling me over and asking me for either an alternative or just explaning to me why they can't adhere to my order request, they just went ahead and used whole milk. If they truly can't do half and half or cream, then let me know. I will choose some other milk alternative, or something else to drink. I dont mind going back to the register to pay the extra $1 for soy or almond or whatever they have.
I still don't know why they cant just make my drink a breve (with half and half). An iced latte or flat white, is just espresso shots, ice, and choice of milk. And i'm not coming from the angle of a customer not knowing what to order or how to order. This is coming from a barista that has been in the coffee scene with 3 years of experience, who enjoys good coffee and has been to coffee shops all over houston and its greater areas. And this is the first place that I felt judged, has given me issues about my milk choice, and that I didn't feel welcomed in.
and to be honest, after getting my drink, i didnt go back up the counter because I did not want to deal with the baristas on shift and be looked at like i was crazy again. In this economy, if im buying a $6-7 coffee, you'd think they would make it they way you want without the judgement.
It wasnt even an accident or they read the ticket wrong, or to my knowledge didn't have half and half. It would be different if they said they cant because they ran out. But to me it seemed like they didnt want to make it the way I wanted it. Theres a difference between "cant" and "wont". It was intentionally made wrong.
I didnt even want to write a review but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and I just hate the level of pretentiousness the baristas had when i went here. Two stars was generous. And i only gave them that because it is a...
Read moreHi! So happy to have landed in ZunZun Land. The frequency was super chill. The customer service was top tier from explaining drinks, the plants for sale, the coffee roaster element and the young gentleman speaking on how ALL proceeds for plant sales go to a local organization. I had a pastry, a flat croissant which was just okay— I would not purchase again, again taking nothing away from ZunZun. I did have an oat milk lavender latte. The coffee was deliciously smooth, great dept and notes. The latter was not overly sweet. The pungency and indelible taste of the coffee beans rang through, it was like an adventure!! I enjoyed FIRST TIME visit. There was people working on their laptops when I entered and as I lingered, more people came in, each guest found seating easily. and still the noise level was moderate, easy going. Some patrons were conducting work business at a louder octave, which was slightly distracting but taking nothing away from this beautiful establishment who takes care to prepare each drink and bring it to the customer if they’re dining in. The service was tended with great care and consideration. I look forward to returning one day soon. Overall as well, very clean, ambient setting with nice big windows, Big Note; the seating is very comfortable, you sink back into the seats and the tables were stable plus all the hanging plants really added to the ecosystem —even as I looked out the window to a Starbucks across the street, that would be the last place I’d ever want to be— ZunZun connects with people consistently as I observed them and if they delayed in assistance, a earnest apology was given. Overall a...
Read moreI've been going to Zun Zun for over 2 years. My favorite is their cortado and all of their coffees are good. When they have food, it's delicious. But this is what's caused me to leave a negative review.
Rarely does Zun Zun have food beyond a plain croissant after 9:30 - even on weekends. The employees also demonstrate no empathy about the situation, seemingly annoyed that a customer might wish to enjoy more variety with their coffee. Again, it's not that these options don't exist, it's that they don't make enough of them and don't prioritize replacing them when they run out.
Unfortunately, I live 15 minutes away from Zun Zun. And have driven here for many years because of how good the coffee is. But today I've decided not to make the trek anymore.
There are many people every time I visit, so it's clear lots of folks are cool with the food situation. If that's you, absolutely go! The coffee is top notch and you won't be disappointed. But if food is important to you, I recommend seeking...
