🚨Hidden Gem Alert*🚨
It was love at first bite! We finally tried this place on a whim—and wow, what a discovery! My coworker, also from California, warned me to lower my expectations and give up on finding authentic Mexican food in Dallas. After spending nearly every weekend for the past seven months searching for anything that resembled the flavors of home, I was ready to throw in the towel.
Living in San Diego was a privilege, especially with Tijuana just a stone’s throw away. I never realized how deeply food could impact my life until I moved. When you grow up eating Mexican food 3–4 times a week, the absence of it hits hard. I knew about Tex-Mex, but I assumed—naively—that Texas, once part of Mexico, would be overflowing with authentic Mexican cuisine. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I tried to embrace Tex-Mex, but I was raised on the real thing. In my neighborhood, our Mexican neighbors were like family. During holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, we exchanged dishes: tamales, champurrado, and chile relleno from them; lumpia, pancit, and pandesal from us. We shared meals, stories, and laughter. Though our cultures were different, we were one community.
It feels like home at Ana’s. I’m beyond thrilled to have found this gem—and it’s near our new place! If you’ve moved here from CA and didn’t expect the struggle of finding authentic Mexican food, your search ends now. The moment the freshly handmade tortillas hit the table, I knew we were in for something special.
We ordered a bowl of pozole and a bowl of caldo de res—both crafted with absolute love. The owner/server even brought us a sample of their lamb barbacoa, and the meat literally melted in our mouths. I’m counting down the days until I can go back and I want to try everything on the menu. No doubt about it—I’m going to be a regular.
I wish I took photos of the food but I ate like a starved animal and forgot! If you’re reading this—please go to Ana’s and try the food, you will not be...
