I’ve gone to Gogogiri for my onigiri since the day they opened. The food is impeccable, the rich sauce they add to their rice balls enhances the flavor like nothing else. However there are several issues with service and consistency that affect my rating.
First off is online ordering. I have never ever received a correct online order. Unless I am there in person there is no way to guarantee my food will be correct. Their online store is not updated and doesn’t include everything on their menu. They have a notes section to allow me as a customer to distinguish what I want and despite filling out my preferences they have never taken it into account. There is still no way to pick a sauce and size of your onigiri on the online store. I have also ordered a few times and had missing items.
Second is the menu. They absolutely crushed it on the onigiri and the different options. However, since they opened they have tried to add multiple different things to their menu which are either only posted on their social media, are only posted on their in restaurant menu, or are only on the online store. Some menu items have pictures either of the food or clip art but most of it doesn’t. You need to add pictures of every menu item next to the food so people know what they’re ordering. My point is there is a lack of consistency across the different offerings specifically what is advertised and what is able to be ordered. I have also not been very impressed by any of the new food they have tried to add as it is typically something you can order somewhere else and it’ll be better.
Third is the marketing. The marketing has been all over the place in the last half year. First it was new menu items that you couldn’t actually order, then it was talking about how they are going bankrupt and desperately need customers and now it’s any social media trend they can copy. Again, lack of consistency. The feeling I got watching the ads versus the customer service I received in the store are completely opposite. People are attracted by restaurant marketing because they expect the energy and vibe you put out to be there when they walk in the door.
My conclusion is this, start from the basics. Your onigiri are the difference, make it possible to order everything on your menu online and in-person. Be consistent with your offerings if you add a menu item put it on your physical menu and online menu before advertising. I guarantee if you focus on the onigiri, slowly add to your menu every few months, and maybe add some deals and specials you’ll see the growth. I say all this out of love and appreciation for the food you have brought to the North Dallas market. I hope you grow to be...
Read moreBest place for Onigiri, hands down. Heck, best place for a quick bite, hands down! Affordable prices, large portions, and the staff are incredible friendly (all fraternity brothers).
Rice: so first of all, they use sushi rice for their onigiri, which is rice seasoned with a mix of sugar, vinegar and salt. Very lightly seasoned, which is perfect to accentuate the fillings of the rice balls! I'd eat a bowl of the rice itself!
President Onigiri: a mix of Wagyu and Chicken Katsu; the fried chicken is one of the crunchiest I've ever had, and paired with the juicy ground beef and spicy mayo it was utterly transfixing. I usually try everything on my plate at least once before diving in, but I ended up finishing the President onigiri first, it was THAT good! Sweet, salty, crunchy, spicy, and oh so savory!
Wagyu Onigiri: very juicy ground beef with a very slightly spicy mayo sauce. Extremely savory and flavorful on its own~
Beef Dumplings: I cant think of a way to improve these, otherwise I would put it here. They're the penultimate fried beef dumping, meaning it's all up to whether you like them or not. I prefer steamed, but the good news is that they told me they're looking at adding steamed dumplings soon!
Reccommendations: For your first time, absolutely get the President or the Chicken Katsu Onigiri. When you do order, if you get a large onigiri (the mixed onigiri automatically are), make sure to grab chopstics because it absolutely will fall apart! Also, the large is deceptively large, so dont order too much! I'm a big guy, and I could barely finish my smaller onigiri after the big one!
Overall, GoGoGiri is now in my rotations of places I will come back to as a regular patron. Cheap prices, great food, great service; the trifecta of amazingness!
NOTE: I put 4 stars for atmosphere, but they told me that they are going to upgrade the place, so...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to meet here to each a snack before our bi-weekly D&D session. We were excited because we heard good things about the place and 2 people we knew personally have recommended this place. After arriving, 3 of us ordered and 1 of us got our food after 20 mins. The other 2 of us were waiting... and waiting... and waiting... until we realized that it had been nearly an hour since we ordered and we have not had our food yet. After asking about the wait time they apologized and soon came by our table offering only one of us a matcha latte for free. Which we did not mind too much, except that meant they took time away from making the food and made the drink instead. They continued to let us know they ran out of Nori.
After an hour has happened they finally came by the table with only one of our orders, in which we let them know that we need some to go boxes to take it to go. Instead of leaving the food and coming back with boxes, they took the food and never came back.
We finally got fed up after another half our and asked for a full refund on our orders, in which they said our orders were partially done. After asking how much longer it would take, they refused to give a clear answer.
Overall, the customer service was horrendous, the wait time that should have been 20 mins was more than an hour, and not to mention for a weekend night, the place was dead. We were not the only ones asking for a refund that night, and not to mention how the employees did not even know they were getting online orders, forcing UberEats/Doordash drivers to wait in the lobby for almost just as long.
Will never be coming back, and will never recommend this...
