After having passed by Banana Leaf for the past 22 years of living approximately 7.5 miles away from here, we (my Mom and I) finally decided to stop in and have a meal. My only regret is that we didn't come here sooner.
Hands down, the best Thai Food we have ever had. A truly authentic culinary experience. A small, intimate and aesthetically pleasing space with beautiful and inviting energy.
Ariana was our server. Upon entering, she greeted us promptly with a smile, then seated and handed us menus. She was very patient with us as we were first time visitors. Not once during our meal did we ever feel rushed or like we had to vacate the table for turnover. We started things off with unsweetened ice teas. Cool and refreshing even though the blazing hot Texas temperatures are beginning to wind down.
Our meals came with a soup and salad with peanut sauce. Today's soup was cucumber with tofu. Simple yet elegant - almost like silk. The broth was flavorful as well and was the perfect accompaniment to our appetizer. We ordered the Thai fresh chicken spring rolls which were generously filled - the ratio of chicken to veggies was perfect. The combination and balance achieved a perfect bite. The flavor profile of the peanut sauce was something we both particularly enjoyed. It wasn't too heavy nor did it linger on the palate.
For our entrées, Mom ordered the green chicken curry(not pictured) and I ordered the glass noodle pad thai. It is clear that this establishment is indeed authentic for the simple reason that both dishes were excellent, beautifully executed, and accurate in every detail right down to the flavor and spice level(we both ordered a 2 on the 5 scale). The portions are both generous and reasonable for the price and for two (or perhaps more) people to share.
For dessert, Mom ordered the mango ice cream and I ordered the green tea ice cream. It was absolutely divine. The earthiness of the green tea with a creamy/icy consistency and a hint of sweetness left me wanting more. Mom said she enjoyed hers as well.
I understand that Banana Leaf has been conducting business for the past 36 years, and there is a reason- it absolutely reflects the owner's passion, commitment, and adherence to high standards of food, service, and ambiance. Wanted to meet the owner since I have heard others speak highly of him, but the servers mentioned that he was out doing a catering order, so perhaps on our next visit. We...
Read moreI went for my best friend's birthday; the service was great and attentive, and we absolutely loved the Thai tea, but honestly the food was the worst Thai food I've had. It was disappointing because according the reviews this is supposed to be one of the most popular Thai restaurants in DFW, but it seems highly overrated or they were just having a really off night.
My friend ordered a pad thai and she agreed it was the worst pad thai she's had so far.
I ordered a pad kee mao with spice level 2, but the food that came out was absolutely tasteless and bland, except with a ton of salt dumped in. I understand spice is subjective, but there was literally NO spice; my friend who has white taste buds that can't handle even the tiniest bit of spice also agreed that she didn't think there was any spice. The noodles were cut very unevenly with a wide variety of rectangle sizes and some thin pad thai noodles thrown in (???), and a lot of them were still stuck together which prevented them from getting coated in sauce. Not there was enough sauce to compensate anyway. I'm nowhere near a picky eater and it doesn't take much to satisfy my taste buds, but I couldn't bring myself to eat more than a few bites.
I took my leftovers to-go since I didn't want to waste my money, and my family also agreed that it tasted pretty bad. I added the much-needed oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, and chili paste myself since apparently the restaurant forgot...
Read moreHello to the person that is reading this review, My name is Tiara. I’m writing this message to inform you about this amazing place with great service and food to enjoy. First time, I was Introduced from a family friend explaining this restaurant is the best place in North Dallas for Thai food. I never had experience with Thai food before until the taste from this place changed my world. I was personally introduced to the owner Steve (he is a humble gentleman that definitely makes you feel like his family). He told me about his background and where his family is from in Lousiana. I can immediately relate to him because my family is from there, and he gives hugs that make's you miss your family back home. I order from Steve (Shrimp Thai Fried Rice) with a spice of 2. I would love to explain more what Lousiana culture tastes like in food when you know someone who cooks from there. But that would be an article you will need to read lol. Too explain in a short description of the Thai Fried Rice I had from there is: (the food will touch your soul like it was made from home.) I love this family oriented restaurant with amazing and delicious recipes for many new people like me who need to try. Take this review from me, who comes by this place every once month to find that feeling of home cooked meals. You will find that taste here...
