Average Trendy Beergarden, but Pricey
I went to Goodfriends on the reccomendation of a good friend because I was looking for a nice patio to have drinks and a meal. This place meets all of those requirements but doesn't do anything special. It is your typical trendy beergarden with junk art and raw wood tables and chairs.
The place is crowded but welcoming. The staff is too cool for school but gets the job done. You will have to be patient as they operate on their schedule. This has become the expected service at these popular places, where they have more customers than they can handle and don't really care if you come back.
Atmosphere is ok, but nothing special, the patio is the parking lot and you will not be looking at anything pretty besides the beautiful young people that make up most of the customer base. Again, this is typical for Dallas as there are not a lot of beautiful vistas to be found anywhere. They put up reclaimed materials on the walls and some ironic event posters, but it gives the place the right feel and meets expectations.
The have plenty of craft beers on tap and from the bottle, lots of good choices and rotators. I did find it hard to compare beers and prices, but I knew what I wanted to drink so it didn't really matter. If you are not familiar with the craft brew scene it might be challenging to order what you enjoy. My girlfriends bloody mary was ok, but nothing special.
The food was definitely good and they had some interesting options that make dining fun. My burger was cooked well with Brie and an egg, lots of flavor. My girlfriends salad was large enough for a meal with a variety of greens and chopped vegetables. But again, this is really only average for the price.
There are so many of these places popping up in DFW that if you like the beergarden experience you owe it to yourself to try Goodfriends. If you are patient and out for a leisurely good time you will not be disappointed, but I suspect that you will probably find another that you...
Read moreFirst the PROS: The beer selection is (namely my favorite style which is IPA = India Pale Ale) pretty darn awesome. On top of that, they have ROTATING taps + standards/old standbys always available. They also have cool, unique, unusual beers in the bottle as well, which is great. So, selection is some of the best in Dallas.
The food is outstanding!! Can't tell ya a particular dish to try - just go explorin':-) Really outstanding food and a good value.
The decor is pretty cool; I like the list of rotating beers written on the board and the overall layout - rough around the edges yet in a cool sorta way.
The only sore spot (and the ONLY reason I actually don't go over there much any more these days) is the experience I've had with their service.
A couple of the bartenders have been fair maybe and occassionaly good... but any time I have gone over, a couple of the employees (bartenders) have been downright cold; sorta like you feel like they feel you are somthing on the bottom of their shoe maybe?.. rather than a paying customer - in an ailing economy no less.
If the service were to bump up to the fair to excellent range - not talkin' about kissin' your toes to be "nice," but just being respectful friendly and accomodating, I'd be back...
Read moreThe food was good, BUT I was disappointed. This space is shared with Cultivar Coffee Bar, which has excellent coffee and pastries. This does not reflect on the coffee bar. So... The positive: the biscuit & gravy was delicious! The not-so-positive: I Came for breakfast and ordered the "scrambler". It was an omelette. Completely different than what I expected with the name scrambler. Additionally, there was a cursory sprinkling of cheese on top and NONE inside. I like cheese. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Furthermore, the menu says served on top of potato hash. Again, I'm expecting tiny chunks of potatoes like in corn beef hash or perhaps traditional "hash browns". The potatoes are big chunks like home fries or steak fries. Not that it tastes bad, on the contrary, (other than the lack of cheese) everything tasted great. It just didn't meet my expectations based on the descriptions. Again, the biscuits & gravy were spot on, delicious, and I saw other ppl ordering the bfast biscuit sandwiches. They all look great. Bottom line: The coffee was perfect and the ppl are friendly. I'll come back for a biscuit or even a lunch Sandwich (their "Other than Breakfast" menu looks really good), just not for the...
