I finally got a chance to stop in and try the place out. As someone who usually goes to Einstein to get their bagel fix, I wanted to give the local a shot. I had the cinnamon raisin with blueberry swirl. It was good and has potential. I wish it would have been toasted but it was never asked if I wanted it that way. I don't know if it's an option or not. I also tried the bagel dog. This was wonderful as well but it could use some improvement (the total package was dry, not saying it wasn't good it's just it could use something such as maybe cheese to help give it some life). Overall it was good and I wouldn't mind returning. Now here is where I have the problem: when I walked in it was crowded (which is a good thing....... You would hope!). It took some time to get an order in but that's ok when you're booming in business it's expected. As I sat back and waited for my order I noticed the look on people's faces that were still waiting on their orders that were in there long before I got there. Watching what's going on behind the counter was just weird. You had one person as the cashier, two people preparing food and one girl bagging the orders. This would be fine if it wasn't for the 4 other employees with gloves on crowding the work area just talking and not contributing. This really hurts the efficiency of the other workers. You might want to reevaluate your staff load. I see a comment that was made by the owner that they are a bunch of school kids as first jobs. This was not true this morning but with that aside that is not an excuse. We are not supposed to accept the inability to function in the work environment as a cause for poor service. I understand that you are a new business, that's why I have a high rating, but if you want the name to get out as a booming business then your customer service needs work. Also your options seem to be geared more towards lunch time appeal. I know when I'm looking for a bagel fix I'm looking for that morning sweet donut alternative. Maybe it would be worth having a community poll or suggestions box to see what your neighborhood would prefer to have as options. Again this is only criticism to help not hurt, I would definitely suggest your store to anyone looking for a bagel fix. Good luck and hope to see you grow into a neighborhood...
Read moreWe have been waiting to get the opportunity to try Lubbies and finally got the chance today :) I am proud of how they are adapting to the demands of being in East Dallas. They are killing it. Seems like (based on reviews and being in there today) that they are busy all the time. I’ve seen a lot of reviews about experiencing long wait times, but today we were greeted with quick and efficient service!
First, I’d like the day that their coffee was KILLER. I like it much better than cultivar because it’s much more balanced and flavorful, rather than being overbearing with burnt espresso. I’ll be back for another latte.
Secondly, I’m only giving 4 stars because I’m not completely sold on the bagels, but it seems like others are thoroughly enjoying what I am iffy about. They are REALLY chewy on the outside. Like, hard chewy where I was having difficulties biting through and having to rip the bagel off with my teeth. Not sure if this is just their signature product, but I’m still on the fence about it… just know that this is what you’ll get. I’ve had alot of other bagel sandwiches and haven’t experienced this.
Flavor. I got the salmon and lox with salmon dill schmear on an onion bagel. There was an odd sweetness that I couldn’t identify and it was just kinda bland? I did enjoy the fresh dill on the bagel! It gave a refreshing touch and the smoked salmon had a good texture and flavor in itself but nothing spectacular. Additionally, the menu stated that there would be capers on the sandwich but there weren’t. I think adding tomato to this sandwich would benefit the overall flavor , maybe.
After ordering, I decided to get the poppyseed and apricot rulacch (I don’t know if I spelled that correctly). I give it 1 of 5 stars… it just tasted like dough with a whisper of apricot.
All in all. It was kinda just okay other than the coffee and service. I would like to go back in a few months because I empathize with the stress of opening a new business and having to make adjustments. Wishing Lubbies all the best in East...
Read moreI’ve honestly been looking forward to this place since the “coming soon” sign went up. I’ve lived in east Dallas my whole life and the thought of having a bagel shop on a center with some great places like Goodfriends and GAPC made me excited. I tried to go on opening day but was met with hours of waiting in lines, the oven breaking down and running out of product. I decided to wait a few weeks and then go back to give them a fair try and was even more underwhelmed and disappointed with the product and experience. The hardest part is that this place has such good bones! It could become a breakfast spot for so many in an area that desperately needs it but quite frankly, the product isn’t good. I know the owners are sisters and one claims to be a baker but the lack of seasoning and the way they boil/bake their bagels isn’t what is classified as a bagel. It tastes like a dinner roll and they’re super chewy. There’s no prices listed ANYWHERE and they don’t offer anything except for bagels and smear. They have a sign on their door that tells you you’re not allowed to bring in anything from goodfriends, which just seems like a bad vibe. The sister who works the front of the house isn’t a people person. I saw and heard her try to talk to many customers as they were checking out and asked invasive questions: someone’s job, how long they’ve lived around here, where they got their drinks, etc. it felt more like someone who REALLY wants you to stay but you feel like you’re under lots of unwanted pressure. The biggest confusion is how they run the place. You see all these employees standing around but no one is actually working. It takes 20 minutes to get a bagel, even if there’s no line. My sincere ask to Lubbies is, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” This neighborhood thrives on goodness and taking care of each other. There are FAR superior bagel shops in Dallas, Bennys in Lakewood, for instance, who would never treat you the way this place does. Honestly, unless they do a complete 180, I don’t know how they are...
