Visited the Texas State Fair and although there's lots of food and beverages to be had there, we wanted to find a quick bite to eat that wasn't crowded or astronomically expensive and this place came up in our search. We arrived and immediately thought it might be closed down because the area and parking lot were so desolate. We debated initially if we should even bother to go in...obviously we did and don't regret our decision one bit! Full transparency...this review is based on the hospitality, customer service and food quality. The decor and utensils are definitely out of the 80s so if you're looking for modern and upscale, this place ain't for you. We were greeted like family members the minute we opened the door by Mick and I couldn't get enough of her calling me baby with her Louisiana drawl! We were looking at the menu and she made great suggestions, even gave us samples of the gumbo (which was made in house by "Joe" and it was very good. We didn't order it though - I opted for a seafood combo with fried oysters (yuck), fried shrimp, a catfish filet, hush puppies, coleslaw and fried okra (they had other choices for sides like fries or baked potatoes too). The tartar sauce was made in house and I think the coleslaw was too. Bottom line is that nothing was fried from frozen, it was all made in house down to the hand cut fries. Catfish was crispy, shrimp was fresh and not rubbery; the oysters were kinda chewy as per my husband, he didn't care for them. We had iced tea that was also freshly made and brought to our table by Mick who made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our meal. There wasn't a lot of in house diners, but they had several door dash orders which I'm guessing is what keeps the establishment afloat. I hope they are planning to renovate in the near future, I bet this place would be packed out of it were more appealing to the eye. If ever in that part of Texas again I'd surely visit and would recommend to anyone interested in a...
Read moreUpdate 9/30/22: Just went there with my 2 boys and goodness. The food is fresh and delicious. My 10 and 7 year old love the seafood and burgers. They made our night with the GREAT service provided. We dined outside and they made sure we had napkins, condiments, and refills. Love this place. Food and service is great. Some people here complain about the price but even that I don’t see a problem compared to other places. Thanks for another great experience! —————————— I have been going to this place ever since I was a teenager. My husband and I passed by a few days ago and it’s gotten even better. This was our second time in a while and we noticed that the employees are so nice, attentive and helpful! This is my family and mines favorite place to eat hands down. We don’t hesitate when it comes to figuring out where to eat lol. We are even planning to order from there soon for my brother and his wife’s birthday get together. I usually have the fried shrimp; always hot and fresh. My husband goes for the bbq; loves it. Great portions, great taste, and...
Read moreThis is my kind of place!! The gumbo is excellent...you won't find better! I saw the sign just off Exit 48 in Dallas, and crossed 3 lanes of traffic to get off and find my way back; it was worth it! I only wanted gumbo but got some hushpuppies to eat with the seafood gumbo. The gumbo had lots of shrimp, pieces of fish, and crab claw...it has an incredible flavor. My wife, who isn't a seafood person at all, got a chopped brisket sandwich. It was very good, the kind of BBQ that doesn't need sauce to give it flavor. She got onions rings with the brisket and I tried both. She says the onion rings are the best she has ever had. I tried them and they were also very good. We were helped at the counter and served by Mick, a very nice lady who works there and was kind enough to take the photos. This ain't a white tablecloth kind of place, but if you want great seafood gumbo, served by really nice folks at a very reasonable price, this is the place to go. Tell them...
