Where do I begin my love story with Las Almas Rotas…. A few years ago my friend and I stumbled upon this place because we love margs. As we sat down at the bar I realized we were in a bar with an outrageous mezcal program. After one delicious margarita I asked a bartender for a pechuga flight, something I knew little about and wanted to know more. Right away he was excited to help me and we worked within my price range to put something adventurous together. Fast forward 2 years and all the while I began following Las Almas on social media and I began to understand how much work they put into this program. The travel, the education, the communication… I grew an immense amount of respect. So when my husband had to travel to Dallas for work I tagged along to come to this bar. For three days in a row, that’s exactly what i did. For those three visits I was greeted by not only the most knowledgeable staff, but also the friendliest. They know the products, they want to teach the patrons who want to know but can make great cocktails for those who don’t. The amount of work and dedication that goes into what this bar is doing is incredible and if you love agave spirits you need to go. Make the trip to Dallas, or if you’re a local, go learn! It’s been a week and I am already missing this place so much.

I visited Las Almas Rotas with my son and a dear friend on Saturday. Mind you, I am not yet comfortable in large crowds, and am still a masker (DON'T JUDGE - you don't know my story...). It was a small space with just a few people and it looked perfect. Julian, clearly a master at his trade, served us at the bar. Then we moved to a table. Suddenly the bar exploded with Santas! I called it a Santa Convention! Santas of every ilk slowly streamed in until it was packed with Santas. They brought with them color, costumes, kindness, smiles, and a sweet spirit that filled the room. After sharing good times - and lots of pictures - with the Santas, I looked up, and they were gone. Almost like a sweet, wonderful, Mezcalic (is that a word?) dream. What a joyous time we had! I got the feeling that Los Almas Rotas was the reason for these good vibes. It's what attracted the Santas and the eclectic group of patrons. I also think that no matter what time of year I go there, I will have a "Santa"-type experience. I laughed and smiled so much I think the smile lines in my face are a little more pronounced this morning. But I'm good with that. Get yourself over there, and get your own smiles.

Been wanting to go here since I first moved here a little over a year ago and finally made it over! It did not disappoint. I had heard of the large tequila and mezcal selection and it was quite impressive. I got a margarita and they asked if I wanted something specific in it so I ordered it with a certain mezcal that was recommended by someone in my group. The mezcal was excellent and the margarita was excellent. The tacos were also really good. The tortillas are fantastic, sourced form Molino who is awesome and they do heirloom corn tortillas with tradiontional methods. An order of 4 is $14 and you can pick two styles. Me and a friend ordered different ones so we each got to try 4 different tacos (carnitas, lengua, Al pastor and carne asada). The carnitas was by far my favorite. The green salsa was also excellent. The lengua and pastor were good, not the best I’ve ever had but good, would get again. The carne asada was ok, the meat was tender but lacked the seasoning and flavor I expect from carne asada. But all in all, enjoyed the tacos! And better yet, the restaurant is all dolled up for the holiday season and just gives it that something extra special!

Garbage experience. I was with a group, trying to buy three drinks for my guests. Quietly waited for the oh-so busy bartenders attention. The bartender then asked for three IDs, standard procedure, no problem. I went back to the table, got the IDs, and brought them back to the bar and waited again for the same bartenders attention and now, suddenly she says my guests have to come up to the bar in person. Seriously? Why not just tell me that from the start instead of wasting my time going back and forth like a dog? AND THEN proceed to give ME an attitude for THEIR failure to communicate on a 4th grade level? It’s not that hard to communicate: "All guests need to be present at the bar with their IDs." Done.

UPDATE: The owner responded, as usual, in a condescending, defensive tone, just like they do with other reviews that aren’t 5 stars. Not surprised by the service we got here. By the way, in his response, “tipsy” doesn’t mean “belligerent” or “drunk,” so nice try, but no.

The morning after, in my completely untipsy state, the conclusion is the same. After "self-reflecting" as suggested by the owner, I'm realizing this place is not just garbage, but rather wet-hot garbage--especially after the owners nasty response. It all makes sense now as these issues typically start at the top. This wasn't about being "tipsy"—it was about their inability to communicate basic instructions. There are way better mezcal spots in Dallas with actual customer service and good vibes. Do yourself a favor and hit those up instead. This is a classic case of letting a good location get to your head. Sometimes people think that because they're busy, they can slip up and treat you like YOU slipped up.

P.S. To the owner: I read your whiny response in my head like this: “ThiS Is A rIdIcUlOuS CoMpLaInT, yOu CaMe In TiPsY FrOm ThE FaIr, MaYbE Go SlEeP iT oFf aNd ReFlEcT oN YoUr BeHaViOr.” "yOu aRe a OnE StAr cUsTomEr". Cool, Karen. You should cry-hug and chant that in the cooler with your self-righteous staff once at opening and once at closing to really nail-in that mentality among your crew like the great, whiny leader you are.

Also, here's a direct quote from another review that you can find by scrolling a little further down where the owner had a tantrum about someone’s opinion of their food: “If you don’t know what you’re talking about, keep your opinion to yourself.”

Since I've self reflected as per the advise of the owner, maybe he can now self-reflect on how he handles criticism about his...

This was, hands down, the most deplorable experience I’ve ever had at any establishment, and that’s saying something considering I’ve been to this place multiple times before. Every visit has been consistently disappointing, with staff who act like they’d rather be anywhere else, but this latest disaster took it to a new low. We walked in after a show, hoping for a simple drink, only to find the same lifeless, empty bar we’ve come to expect—the only customers in sight all night. Within minutes, the hostile staff refused to serve us, offering no explanation or shred of courtesy. My friend was inexplicably denied even a non-alcoholic beverage, which felt targeted and discriminatory. It was painfully clear the employees were just itching to close early and leave, a pattern I’ve noticed every time I’ve been here. Their rudeness was beyond unprofessional—it was outright shameful. Things took a bizarre turn when they threatened to call the police on us for no reason whatsoever. We were calm, polite, and did nothing to deserve this unhinged escalation. This bar is a complete disgrace, and it’s been that way every single time I’ve gone. The staff’s persistent apathy and outright hostility make it unbearable. I wouldn’t drag my worst enemy here, let alone friends or family. Do yourself a favor and avoid this pathetic excuse for a bar at all costs—literally anywhere...

My most favorite place, I love the food, drinks, but the new ordering app is trash that it almost made me not want to come back. The app is not user friendly at all. It would be nice to have the waitress/waiter explain how it works and/or also be available if you need assistance or want to customize items. It was horrible experience trying to order through the app and have to customize an item or even ask for something as simples as napkins. It was seriously a frustrating experience that I just wanted to leave. it seemed that the waitress (or at least our waitress) was relying too much on the app, that no one come and checked on us to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. We had to go out of our way to get someone’s attention just to have someone wait on us. I may understand that the restaurant may be under staff but if you’re are gonna rely on this app at least add more features and have someone explain how it works; also be available for questions, customizations, and need be it, take orders. (Oh, and should I add, we came on a weekday evening so it wasn’t that it was busy at all) The food and drinks may still be my favorite but this new app makes me weary to even come back or recommend it to friends and family. The whole point of coming to a restaurant is good food and customer service and they seriously lacked the...
