It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review and usually its after two more incidents. The first time I tried this place out their AC was out and I roughed through my pho despite the heat inside the restuarant and their poor waitress running around keeping up with orders. The second incident is where it was unforgivable... I walked in on my lunch break and the place was busy. Still I had no problem waiting but the first drawback was that there was no one there to greet or wait me, instead I was flagged by the waiter that day and was told simply "sit anywhere". So I did. I waited about 5 min before he came by and just dropped the menu in front of me and left. I get it, they're busy. 10 min pass by as I wait patiently for him to return to take my drink and order. Instead the waiter comes back and apologizes but that they are shutting down the kitchen and no longer taking orders due to the current traffic. I was left a little flabbergasted and embarassed and stood there with a blank face and the waiter as well as he reiterated that "we will not be able to serve you sorry, I just got yelled at". I had never had this happen to me before but I politely got up and left. Thinking later that there are more professional ways of excusing a delay and perhaps a better way of communicating that over all. By that time I had wasted 20 min of my lunch and had to rush to find something quickly. Hope they hire some help...
Read moreUpdate 11/1/2019: Sad. This used to be my go to spot for Pho. But, the restaurant has changed hands and is under new ownership. Although the service is now more efficient, the Pho has none of the nuance that made it so good before. Either the old owner did not pass along his secrets or the new ownership simply can not execute it in the same manner. The prices are higher too. I ordered extra brisket, per my usual, and all I got was a sad smattering of about 6 pieces of different kinds of beef in a cloudy bowl of broth with a gluey ball of noodles. Now its just another bowl of unremarkable Pho. See my prior review. I really hope the old owner can find another spot to serve his food to the public again. His broth and loving attention to every detail in the bowl was truly an experience. I forget his name and do not know where he is. I pray he is doing well.
Old Review: Simply the best stock (broth) I have ever had in a bowl of Pho. Hands down. I was a chef for three years. I have eaten at more Michelin 3 star restaurants than I have fingers and toes. Their stock is up there with the best and it makes their Pho my favorite.
This is a true gem of a local restaurant where I eat the L4 at least once a week, sometimes twice. And it is staffed and operated by really great, warm, and caring people. It is a perfect neighborhood restaurant and should be a destination for any Pho...
Read moreSorry for the lengthy review.....BUT Oh, man! If I could give this place a 10 out of 10, I absolutely would. This is hands-down the BEST pho I've ever tasted. My partner and I love it so much that we come at least once a week--it's become a bit of a tradition for us!
The experience isn't just about the food, though. The owner and his family are incredibly warm and welcoming, and they truly make you feel like a part of their extended family. We were lucky enough to chat with the owner one evening, and he shared a bit of the restaurant's backstory with us. He mentioned that it took them years to perfect the broth, and I can tell--they absolutely nailed it. Hearing about his journey was a treat; he's laid-back, super friendly, and clearly passionate about the food he serves.
The establishment itself is always spotless--something I really appreciate. You can tell they take pride in maintaining a clean, inviting space for their guests. Now, onto the star of the show: the pho. Oh my goodness! I always order the pho with no meat, spice level 3, in a small bowl. Every time, the flavors blow me away. The broth is rich and aromatic, with just the right amount of spice that warms you up without overpowering the other ingredients. The balance of flavors is incredible--it's comforting, fresh, and so satisfying. This bowl of pho is simply a little...
