Warning: This is going to be a long and harsh review. I've been a very strict caterer for almost a decade of my life and from what I saw in this restaurant, I'm sorry for the owners here. They are genuinely nice and trying to make ends meet for their family.
Overall: Very clean restaurant with average quality food for people on a budget.
Strict mention: I'm not going to order food here ever again, no matter how clean the dining room is or how cheap their food is.
Note: I'm specifically giving this place an extra star based on the sole fact that it's family-owned and I really, REALLY want them to thrive in this harsh ghetto environment, especially since they seemed to employ their young child, who is very obviously under the age of 15. I hope he's doing well enough in school to get out of his family restaurant business in order to gain greater opportunities for himself and possibly support the rest of his family.
The restaurant is owned by an Asian family, which is extremely rare in this area. That being said, their menu is hardly Louisiana-based; it's more of a free-for-all kind of standard menu choice with very few Louisiana-inspired dishes that can be frozen and reheated in a microwave- and I very much think they did that with the red beans and rice mentioned below.
The hard facts: I specifically asked for their spiciest hot wings and they gave me medium-hot at best. It seems like they quite literally have one spice level. This is good for people who can't handle spice, but not good for people like me who want to burn their tongues to oblivion and enjoy the suffering. This statement possibly impacts my second and fourth points. As I stated before, their red beans and rice didn't have much flavor to them and tasted as if they had used Minute Rice in the microwave mixed with red beans with not much spice added. It was very underwhelming, especially for someone who used to have a roommate who was from Louisiana and knew perfect amounts of spices (passed down from his grandma's recipes) to true Louisiana dishes. Call me biased or spoiled, but bland flavor on a spice-based dish does not suit me. My partner said the okra tasted like "what I used to get at the school cafeteria, which was good." I didn't know how to take this considering they were in the Navy and were often fed really terrible food options. They are probably desensitized to taste by now if they are saying high school cafeteria food was good in comparison. If you would like to try their okra yourself, feel free; I don't like okra unless it's fried correctly and I didn't get to sample this dish. Their food is reasonably-priced for its quality (based on the high rates of food prices) and I'm actually not complaining about this. I know for a fact that chicken wings are really expensive these days and they charged less than a dollar per wing, which is absolutely unheard of these days. That being said, their wings were kind of soft-cooked, but definitely okay for the amount they charged per wing. The service was fast. That's about how friendly I can be with this place. I should have asked them to take their time in cooking my and my partners' meals.
The good parts: There are plenty of parking spaces available. Wheelchair-accessible; it's all on flat ground. If you want fast, moderately cheap food that isn't Waffle House, this is a good spot for you. If you can't handle spicy, go ahead and order the hot wings. They seem to have no other spice to offer. It's family-owned and operated. The restaurant is nice and clean and there's no annoying music over loud speakers; it's literally just a restaurant in which you can chill and gnaw on your wing bones without having to hear awful pop music screeching into your ears like most other...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNormally I come to this place and have a good experience, but today I will never go back. I came in and ordered shrimp fried rice as I always do, and the Lady have the audacity to put fried shrimp pieces in the rice close the box up and give it to me. When I got home I noticed that the order was not right I immediately went back up to the restaurant. Upon arriving at the restaurant I was told that that is how they always make the order and that I would not be getting my money back. After explaining to the lady that I frequently visit the location and this was not how it was made in the past she told me I was lying and that this is how itās always made. She did not want to remake the food and it first she told me she would give me half of my money back and I can keep the food. After I proceeded to tell her that I did not want the food because thatās not how it supposed to be cooked she points to the sign that says no refunds after orders have been placed. But as I explain to her the order was messed up by their employee so that should be a reason to fix it. She still refused and told me not to come back there. After sitting and going back-and-forth with the lady she finally agreed to give me $10 of my money back and asked me not to come back again. I have never been so insulted and I will never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve eaten here a couple of times and never had a problem. This time the chicken was refried in OLD grease and they changed the grease every couple of days. I tried to explain to the owner, but all she kept saying is that it was the seasoning. It was red pepper in it, it was the seasoning etc. etc. I told her I know the difference between red pepper and spicy and burnt!!!. I listened to her, but She refused to listen to what I had to say I!!!! I kept saying excuse me, Miss could you please listen to me. She was not trying to hear what I had to say. She was trying to compare my chicken to others and Iām like itās not about others is about mine and being the customer. She will never ever ever have to worry about me eating there...
