Carvel — Restaurant in Danbury

Just moved to the area and was excited to find a Carvel close by. Before I moved I used to frequent my local Carvel often and always ordered two cups to go with some hot fudge on the side to go as well since I had to drive them home and didn’t want the ice cream to melt before I got there. When I asked for the same at this location I was told that they don’t sell the hot fudge separately (which in my personal experience has been untrue). I figured I’d suck it up and get it poured directly on the ice cream only to have it melt by the time I get home, but yet again I was told this was not possible because I ordered the Jr size and “sundaes” are only for Smalls and up. This makes absolutely no sense to me and I will not be going back. He could have charged me upwards of $2 for a tiny side of hot fudge and I would have paid, that’s how much i value the product. Unfortunately the service at this location could stand to have a little more value itself, because it doesn’t seem as though they value the wants of the customer all too much. First time I’ve ever heard of an ice cream shop denying the request for hot fudge in any capacity! So if you want hot fudge and don’t feel like ordering a Small size, don’t even bother coming to this location. Especially if you have kids because it appears as though if a child wants some hot fudge on their kids size they too would be...

This place is usually nice. Not great but nice. The last 2 times I went were just aggravating. It was hard for them to hear me the first time or maybe they just weren't paying attention. Had to correct what toppings I wanted. Ask if spoons and napkins were in the bag was told yes and only had spoons. This time I went I lifted the corner of my mask so they can better hear all while my face was still covered. Was told I had to keep my mask on when it wasn't removed. Asked if napkins were in the bag and was told yes. Once again, just spoons and no napkins. Maybe they just say yes to hurry you out the store bc its only 2 ppl at a time and a line is outside. It would be nice if they could just say "can you say that again please" instead of just saying yes if it is actually due to not hearing you. I like going here out of convenience but seems ill just have to keep driving to german town...

If I could give negative stars I would. The old guy who works there at first told me they don’t do samples and then begrudgingly got a sample spoon for me. I got a strawberry milkshake which I remember getting here as a teen, back then it tasted good. I got another one today and watched as the guy put frozen strawberries into a cup, filled the rest with milk and blended it. No ice cream in it at all. He didn’t fill the entire cup either. I questioned him on the shake to which he said it was a milkshake. Milk and frozen strawberries in a cup is not a milkshake, milkshakes have ice cream and milk. This was a cold strawberry milk, which isn’t what I asked for.

Give this one a miss and go to the new Milford carvel instead where they do things properly. I also would recommend literally anywhere’s else for ice cream, where the owner likely isn’t a crabby old man messing up...
